"Six Days on the Road" by Dave Dudley
Dave Dudley was David Darwin Pedruska from Spencer, Wisconsin. He was a fine honky-tonk singer, and he came along at a time of growing working-class emphasis in country music. This, after all, was the era of Merle Haggard, Tom T. Hall, and Loretta Lynn. And no one could sing about working-class life better than Dave Dudley 'cause he had lived the life that he sang about. In 1963, he sang one of the many truck driving songs that was popular at that time. It's called "Six Days on the Road." It's one of the finest performances in country music. Six days on the road and I'm a gonna make it home tonight Six days on the road and I'm a gonna make it... It's full of working-class pride and sort of swaggering masculinity.
