Murv Seymour:
Why do you feel, Jeff, that you want to put yourself on the front line of this issue?
Jeff Meessmann:
Well, I've been on the front line of this issue for four years now. I have a passion for the lakes, as you can probably tell. I want to protect them. I'm a fisherman. I want to be able to take my granddaughter out fishing. She's four years old. I don't know if in 10 years I'll be able to do that. If we keep destroying the lakes with surfing, there'll be lakes permanently damaged that you won't be able to fish on, or it won't be worth fishing because the habitat and ecology will be changed.
Murv Seymour:
And your role in testing the water for the DNR, why do you choose to do that?
Jeff Meessmann:
I've done that now for seven years, and I wanted to get involved in preserving the quality of lakes. That's why I do it. Additionally, I'm also a Clean Boat, Clean Water inspector — a certified inspector. So, when people bring their boats out of the water, I train them and educate them on how to take care of the aquatic invasive species so we don't have that in our lakes.
