Wisconsin recorded 7,065 new coronavirus cases Saturday—a new record and an increase of 924 over Friday’s number.

This came with 45 new deaths and brought the seven day average to 5,394.

Hospitalizations continue to climb in the state as 1,787 Wisconsinites were hospitalized as of Friday. Wisconsin intensive care unit beds remain near 90% capacity statewide.

“In every region of Wisconsin, we have hospitals reporting staffing strain, as well as hospitals reporting that they are at peak census for accepting patients for their hospital beds and for their ICU beds,” health secretary Andrea Palm said during a Wednesday media briefing.

She said the state was in a crisis, as all 72 counties reported “very high” levels of COVID-19 activity.

As of Saturday, the state’s field hospital at State Fair Park remains open with six patients.

“[We need to join together as individuals who care about our communities to stop the spread of COVID-19,” Palm said. “Wear a mask if you have to go out, stay six feet apart, wash your hands frequently, get your flu shot.”
