A prescribed burn in Superior provides pride and healing

The Fond du Lac Band of the Lake Superior Chippewa practiced a culturally prescribed burn on Wisconsin Point in Superior to restore and heal their land regained after more than a century-long loss.

Editor’s note: All but 0.2 acres of Wisconsin Point that is the site of a former Ojibwe cemetery remains owned by the city of Superior. In 2022, the Fond du Lac band of Lake Superior Chippewa regained the burial ground site from the city.
