Minnie's War Bonnet

This is my home. It's known as Paha Sapa, the Black Hills. Our creation story says Paha Sapa is connected to the star nation of Pleiades. This is where our Lakhota people come from. The stars tell us when the seasons are changing and when it's time for the animals to migrate. The animals like it too. Everyone is happy here. Wambli, the eagle, is our greatest friend and protector and is a symbol of strength, honor and courage. Eagles take our prayers up into the spirit world for us. (Lakhota language) (horse galloping) How was that Witko? Did you have enough to drink? (prairie dogs barking) (eagle call) (dramatic music) (horses galloping) (gasp) Let's hit it Witko! Hah! (horse whinny) (horse galloping) Yellow Hair and his men are coming! We must leave now! (Lakhota war cries) (dramatic music) Ho! (Lakota language spoken) (horse galloping) Ho! Eya ya yo! Go with the women and children. (grunt) No! I'm going with you. Oh, Han! Ride alongside me and stay close. Oh, Han! (horse galloping) (horse whinny) Hah! (horses galloping) (Lakhota war cries) (gunfire) (dramatic music) Unci, wake-up! I think we can leave now, everyone has left. Wait now, I must get my things. (dramatic music) Unci! Unci! (dramatic music) Minnie, you are a brave woman. We will never forget what you did to protect us. Wear this with honor. (joyful cries) Ho, ho! (Lakota language spoken) (joyful cries) (eagle calls) (dramatic music) (Lakhota lullabye)
