Being a midwife definitely is a calling.

The mother reaches down, pulls the baby to her.

There's no other feeling like it.

I have delivered close to 500.

Home birth has been passed down from generation to generation.

My mom did it.

My grandma did it.

Then all of a sudden... A Pen Yan woman is in jail for illegally working as a midwife.

- The first thing I thought was, wow, they're actually arresting a midwife for helping people have babies?

My training is not recognized by the state.

In the beginning, direct entry midwife was just fine.

How many more times are we going to increase the cost so that people within their community can afford to become midwives?

This isn't just about childbirth.

This is a war for bodily autonomy.

We are realizing that if we don't step out and say what we want, we're going to lose home birth altogether.

Women have been helping women since the beginning of time.

Women should have the right to choose.

We need birth in all settings.

- Midwives!

- Save lives!

Why sit around and let these guys run the show?

- I do not believe I am guilty.

When I think back on it, I wouldn't have done anything differently.
