[ Cheers and applause ] -Bringing spirituality down to earth, The Avett Brothers.
- I got regret - Soul debt - Gotta get one hit - Sunlit, unfit, still owe my alma mater - Nightmare, slow throwin', haymakers underwater - Gotta get my hair right - Love you, goodnight - Gotta get cleaned up, dressed up, pressed up - Sun down comes around, find me with my head down - Toes turned in with my hands in my pockets - Like a present day hesitatin' Huckleberry Finn - So I sneak out - Peace out - Peek out the curtains of a blacked-out bedroom - Passed-out cartoon - Version of a person with a whole herd of sheep - Just floatin' in a circle with some capital Z's - Never find me waiting kindly For someone to come remind me Why I struggle so -[ Indistinct ] Well, it's all for the love of a girl I got one older brother, he's a fighter and a lover And every other day, he seems to rediscover What the underlying meaning Of the dreaming and the scheming is History colliding with the soul and the showbiz - Don't save much for a touchdown celebration Runnin' out the tunnel on a 100-foot elevator Racin' through the scene like a drop of gasoline Through a 427 in a Ford Galaxy - Never find him waiting patient For someone to come explain it Why he suffers so -Come on!
- Well, it's all for the love of a girl Whoo!
- It's a hard up, hard luck planet that we're livin' on - Heartache partaken of the blue ribbon on - Most of the trails that we didn't put rails on - Showing at the funeral home with bells on - Gotta get woken up, opened up all the way - Lawyer on the phone saying, "Hey, I just called to say - Still two or three bills in the mail on the way - Hope you doin' alright, hope ya had a great day" - Well, as a matter of fact, I ain't really doin' half bad I was out running errands from early till half past four And I got a good deal on flowers at the grocery store Never find me waiting kindly For someone to come remind me Why I struggle so Why I struggle Sooooooooo - Well, it's all for the love of a girl [ Cheers and applause ] Alright!
[ "2020 Regret" plays ] - I still love you like I did Sometimes I fail to let you know We were holding hands When the ground beneath us slid Now we're barreling down the mountain Don't let go So many moments pass me by My lover's hope is bound to fade A night with you is such a precious thing to miss Here I go again Pissing it away But I still love you like I did Sometimes I fail to let you know We were holding hands When the ground beneath us slid Now we're barreling down the mountain Don't let go Now we're barreling down the mountain Don't let go - I spent all that precious time Somewhere else back then Even when I wasn't gone I might as well have been Lord, I regret plenty With this 20/20 view But the fault's all mine 'Cause there's never been a time I regretted time with you - I let my fear of loss take hold I will the fate of your heart I couldn't blame you If you discovered the things you wanted - Far away from me And went to where they are You turned away from me And went to where they are - But I still love you like I did Sometimes I fail to let you know We were holding hands When the ground beneath us slid Now we're barreling down the mountain Don't let go Now we're barreling down the mountain Don't let go I spent all that precious time Somewhere else back then Even when I wasn't gone I might as well have been Lord, I regret plenty With this 20/20 view But the fault's all mine 'Cause there's never been a time I regretted time with you Yeah, the fault's all mine 'Cause there's never been a time I regretted time with you [ Cheers and applause ] [ "I Wish I Was" plays ] - I wish I was a flame Dancing in a candle Lighting up your living room High on the mantle I could bring some romance Without any scandal And then when you were done You'd just put me out I wish I was a tune You sang in your kitchen Putting your groceries away And washing your dishes I could float around your tongue and ease the tension And then when you were done You'd just quiet down Mm - But if I get too close Will the magic fade?
Would I turn you off or away?
If I pull you in Would I push you out Of something here you care about?
I'm at a loss for what to do I'm drawn to you - I wish I was a sweater Just wrapped around your hips And when it got too cold Into me you'd slip And when the sun came back Darlin', you would hang me up Mm, and I would watch you While you undress - But if I get too clooooose Will the magic fade?
Would I turn you off or away?
If I pull you in Now would I push you out Of something here you care about?
Well, I'm at a loss For what to do But I'm drawn to you - I'm not a song I'm not a sweater I'm not a fire No, I'm something better -Yeah, you are.
- I'm a man in love Writing you a letter - Will you take it?
Will you keep it?
Will you read it?
Believe it I love you I'm sorry [ Cheers and applause ] [ "Laundry Room" plays ] - Don't push me out Just a little longer Little bit!
- Stall your mother Disregard your father's words - Close the laundry door Tiptoe across the floor - Keep your clothes on I've got all that I can take Teach me how to use The love that people say you made Where's it at, Austin?
[ Cheers and applause ] Where's it at?
Yeah!
Stop your sister's car I just saw a shooting star - We can wish upon it We won't share the wish we made -No, no!
- But I can't keep no secrets -No, no!
- I wish that you would always stay -Stay here, mama.
-Please.
- Last night I dreamt the whole night long And I woke with a head full of songs - I spent the whole day I wrote 'em down, but it's a shame Tonight I'll burn the lyrics 'Cause every chorus was your name Here we go!
Let's go, Bonnie.
Go, Bonnie.
Break this tired old routine It goes on and on And this time don't let me leave I am a breathing time machine I'll take you all for a ride I am a breathing time machine - I am a breathing time machine - I am a breathing time machine - And I'll take you all for a ride - Break this tired old routine - Oh, man, I am a breathing time machine - And this time don't make me leave Come on!
Let's go!
Whoo!
Yeah!
-Whoo!
-One, two, three, four!
Whoo-hoo!
Whoo!
[ Cheers and applause ] -Yeah!
-Whoo-hoo!
Alright!
[ "Talk on Indolence" plays ] - Well, I've been lockin' myself Up in my house for sometime now - Readin' and writin' and readin' and thinkin' And searching for reasons and missing the seasons The autumn, the spring, the summer, the snow The record will stop and the record will go Latches latched the windows down The dog coming in and the dog going out Up with caffeine and down with a shot Constantly worried about what I've got Distracting my work, but I can't make a stop And my confidence on and my confidence off And I sink to the bottom and rise to the top And I think to myself that I do this a lot World outside just goes, it goes, it goes, it goes It goes, it goes, it goes, it goes, it goes, it goes - And witness it all from the blinds of my window - Three, four - I'm a little nervous 'Bout what you'll think When you see me In my swimming trunks - And last night in New York I got raging drunk Remember one time I got raging drunk with... - Now, I can recall A time when we made the city Streets our playground Kissing in the fountains - Filled with cigarettes and bottles Sped through Italian City streets of cobblestone Because we had to -No choice.
- Because I loved you -Oh, I did, mama.
Yeah, I swear I did.
- Because the damned alcohol Because whatever at all -Let's go!
That's right!
Help us out now!
Come on!
[ Clapping ] -Yeah!
Now I've grown too aware of my mortality To let go and forget about dying - Long enough to drop the hammer down And let the -- let's go, Austin Wild and flying through -Whoo!
- Because we had to -We had no choice!
- Because I loved you -I did, mama!
Yeah, I swear I did.
- Because we had to - Oh, oh, because we had to - Because we had to Because we had to -No choice.
Because we had to No choice.
- Because we had to [ Cheers and applause ] [ "Cheap Coffee" plays ] -Alright!
Thanks so much, y'all, for the help with that rhythm.
- Cheap coffee brewing in the kitchen From the babies room you were calling me First steps I missed made up by the second ones In a 3-room apartment all of 800 square feet - Didn't know how Didn't know how good it was Didn't know how Didn't know how good it was - Moonlight on your breast Broken by the black straps of your dress Broken by my grip First love I missed made up by the last one Makes me smile as the last of my memory slips Into the past - Didn't know how Didn't know how it could go so fast Didn't know how Didn't know how it could go so fast - When I think about the two of us And what could happen just because Something can break It don't mean that it will What were we waiting for All we dreamt and so much more It was ours But it's ours still Little hands building things Climbing mountains, tracing stars, chasing dreams First light I missed made up by the afterglow I can still feel the warmth of your love light shining on me - Didn't know how Didn't know how good it could be Didn't know how Didn't know how good it could be Didn't know Didn't know it could go so fast Didn't know Didn't know it could go so fast - Cheap coffee brewing in the kitchen - Cheap coffee brewing - Cheap coffee brewing in the kitchen - Cheap coffee brewing -You're going to have a long life, maybe 'bout 200 and million lives.
-Yeah.
-Is that the most highest number?
-Well, the highest number is infinity.
-Infinity?
-Yep, and that's a number that never ends.
-Oh, gosh.
-Yeah.
Very, very, very, very -- Well, it's just...
It's not even a very high number.
It's just... it's a number that never ends.
[ Echoing ] [ Cheers and applause ] [ "We Are Loved" plays ] - Whether we speak up Or we are silent If we are willing Or we are done If we're courageous Or we are cowards We may be burdened But we are loved Whether we stay true And do for another If we are hidden Or we're discovered If we're forgiven Or we're forgotten We may be lonely But we are loved Every stitch and seam Every wish and dream Even in tragedy There lies divinity Even as hope seems lost It may be found again I have felt alone But I have never been - If you are standing Or you cannot stop moving If you are haunted Or you cannot remember Over the gravestone Under the rainbow Pain comes and pain goes And we are loved - Every stitch and seam Every wish and dream Even in tragedy There lies divinity Even as hope seems lost It may be found again I have felt alone But I have never been If we are spirit Or we are human Crossing the river Or harboring change If we deny it Or if we face it May we embrace it We are loved [ Cheers and applause ] -Love you, too!
I was a country kid through and through I got my bare feet bit by a wreckin' crew Of fire ants on a mission For total domination of the front yard Three years old on a ramshackle farm Winnie the Pooh in the crook of my arm Brother and sister not meaning no harm, pickin' on me I was a country kid with a strong foundation Gettin' myself a whole second education In the back of the bus Kids kissin' and cussin' all around me One more pickup in the trailer park Hand-to-mouth livin'll break a young heart Beautiful girl with a hard, hard look in her eyes - Then I grew up and hit the city But the skyscrapers never get me I fly above 'em all the time, straight through cloud nine Flowing fast like the Mississippi - I was a country kid shootin' hoops in the dirt Hidin' smokes in the pocket of a homemade shirt Runnin' laps in the yard Until my little legs hurt and then goin' again Six feet of air off a plywood ramp Dad's welding machine parked where I would land All I could taste was blood All I could feel were the rocks In the palms of my hands I was a country kid throwin' parties in the woods Draggin' my friends out of their neighborhoods Jealous of their cable TV and their girls next door Slippin' off into the dark of the night The shape of a body traced by moonlight Interrupted by some other kid wantin' to fight over her Let's go!
- Then I grew up and hit the city But the skyscrapers never get me I fly above 'em all the time, straight through cloud nine Flowing fast like the Mississippi Flowing fast like the Mississippi, whoo I was a country kid - Now I'm grown with a job and a wife and a son of my own Navigatin' time zones Inspectin' the bones of the second half Talkin' to God a little more often Less requests and more sayin' thank you For every single town and every single acre in between That's right!
- 'Cause I grew up and hit the city But that metropolis'll never get me I fly above it all the time, straight through cloud nine Flowing fast like the Mississippi Yeah, I grew up and hit the city But the skyscrapers never get me I fly above 'em all the time, straight through cloud nine Flowing fast like the Mississippi [ Cheers and applause ] -One, two, three, four.
[ "As Good As I Once Was" plays ] She said, "I've seen you in here before" I said, "I've been here a time or two" She said, "Hello, my name is Bobby Jo Meet my twin sister, Betty Lou And we're both feeling kinda wild tonight You're the only cowboy in this place If you're up for a rodeo I'll put a big Texas smile on your face" [ Cheers and applause ] I said, "Girls... - I ain't as good as I once was I got a few years on me now But there was a time back in my prime When I could really lay it down So if you need some love tonight Then I might have just enough I ain't as good as I once was But I'm as good once as I ever was" [ Cheering ] - I still hang out with my best friend Dave I've known him since we were kids at school Last night he had a few shots Got in a tight spot hustling a game of pool With a couple of redneck boys One great big bad biker man I heard David from across the room "Hey buddy, how 'bout a helping hand?"
I said, "Dave... - I ain't as good as I once was My, how the years have flown But there was a time back in my prime When I could really hold my own But if you wanna fight tonight Guess them boys don't look all that tough I ain't as good as I once was But I'm as good once as I ever was" I used to be hell on wheels Back when I was a younger man - Now my body says, "You can't do this, boy" But my pride says, "Oh, yes, you can" [ Cheering ] - I ain't as good as I once was That's just the cold hard truth I still throw a few back, talk a little smack When I'm feeling bullet proof So don't double dog dare me now 'Cause I'd have to call your bluff I ain't as good as I once was But I'm as good once as I ever was May not be good as I once was But I'm as good once as I ever was [ Cheers and applause ] -Yeah.
Thank you, Toby.
[ Cheers and applause continue ] You guys have all been so good to us, and we can't thank you enough for letting us come here and work for you and play for you.
It is... [ Cheers and applause ] It is our life's work, and we got to have somebody to do it for.
And we thank you so much for being those people.
Thank you, Austin.
Thank you, Texas.
We love y'all.
Thank you.
[ Cheers and applause ] We'll see y'all down the road.
[ "No Hard Feelings" plays ] - When my body won't hold me anymore And it finally lets me free Will I be ready?
When my feet won't walk another mile And my lips give their last kiss goodbye Will my hands be steady When I lay down my fears, my hopes, and my doubts?
The rings on my fingers, and the keys to my house - With no hard feelings - When the sun hangs low in the west And the light in my chest Won't be kept held at bay any longer When the jealousy fades away And it's ash and dust for cash and lust And it's just hallelujah - And love in thought Love in the words Love in the songs they sing in the church And no hard feelings Lord knows they haven't done Much good for anyone Kept me afraid and cold With so much to have and hold Mmm, hmm - When my body won't hold me anymore And it finally lets me free - Where will I go?
- Will the trade winds take me south through Georgia grain?
Or tropical rain?
Or snow from the heavens?
Will I join with the ocean blue?
Or run into a savior true?
And shake hands laughing - And walk through the night, straight to the light Holding the love I've known in my life And no hard feelings Lord knows they haven't done Much good for anyone Kept me afraid and cold With so much to have and hold Under the curving sky I'm finally learning why It matters for me and you To say it and mean it too For life and its loveliness And all of its ugliness Good as it's been to me I have no enemies I have no enemies I have no enemies I have no enemies [ Cheers and applause ] -We love you, Texas.
[ Cheers and applause continue ] -In a time where we didn't have, you know, a hope in hell, we agreed -- whether we said it or not, we committed to each other in -- in a van or in a small venue where there wasn't any promise that this was gonna be our life or provide a living for us or anything like that.
We made commitments to each other.
In that -- In that regard, we very much just sort of settled the trust issue early.
And that was it.
-Yeah, and there -- there's like a, um... a sort of a self-sustaining fuel in that, especially in the early days where -- where... just by saying to the other members, like, "I'm just gonna do this because you want to, like, not because you have to explain it to me or because I have to..." You know, like, that's a way of us giving each other fuel in the beginning when we weren't getting fuel from anywhere else.
We could give it to each other just by showing the other two, like, you know, "I don't have to completely understand it.
I'm just gonna -- I'm just gonna back you up, period."
