"Highway Vagabond" plays
I want to go somewhere where nobody knows I want to know somewhere where nobody goes Following gold lines on the ground Northbound, southbound There's something 'bout the way I feel When the wheels go 'round And 'round and 'round Highway vagabonds, living like hippies Moving right along to the next big city Okay, jump off the exit Truck stop, rest stop, next stop, Texas Caravan like a Wild West show I don't care, man, as long as we go My way - Ahh, ahh, ahh - Get off one and get on the other Highway Vagabonds - Ooh-hoo, ooh-hoo - Daddy was a drifter, Mama died young I still don't know where I come from On the map and off the grid With all my friends Roaming town to town like Willie did When he was a kid Hey, y'all, we're on the road again Highway vagabonds, living like hippies Moving right along to the next big city Okay, jump off the exit Truck stop, rest stop, next stop Texas Caravan like a Wild West show I don't care, man, as long as we go My way Singing for your supper Get off one and get on the other Highway Vagabonds - Ooh-hoo, ooh-hoo -All right.
Guitar solo
But if we ain't broke down Then we ain't doing something right Well, we ain't broke down So we ain't slowing down tonight

'Cause we're highway vagabonds We're living like hippies Moving right along to the next big city Highway vagabonds, living like hippies Moving right along to the next big city Okay, jump off the exit Truck stop, rest stop, next stop, Texas Caravan like a Wild West show I don't care, man, as long as we go My way - Ooh-hoo, ooh-hoo - Get off one and get on the other Highway Vagabonds - Ooh-hoo, ooh-hoo Highway vagabonds - Ooh-hoo, ooh-hoo Moving right along to the next big city - Ooh-hoo, ooh-hoo - Vagabonds - Ooh-hoo, ooh-hoo

Even though I hate to admit it Well, sometimes I smoke cigarettes The Christian folks say I should quit it I just smile and say, "God Bless" 'Cause I heard Jesus, He drank wine And I bet we'd get along just fine He could calm a storm and heal the blind Well, I bet He'd understand a heart like mine
Instrumental break
Daddy cried when he saw my tattoos Said he loved me anyway My brother got the brains of the family So I thought I'd learn to sing 'Cause I heard Jesus He drank wine And I bet we'd get along just fine He could calm a storm and heal the blind And I bet He'd understand a heart like mine
Guitar solo
I'll fly away From it all someday I'll fly away Yeah These are the days that I will remember When my name's called on a roll He'll meet me with two long-stemmed glasses And make a toast to me coming home All right! 'Cause I heard Jesus, He drank wine And I bet we'd get along just fine He could calm a storm and heal the blind Well, I bet He'd understand Understand a heart like mine Oh, well, I think He would I'll fly away Oh, home

I'm against the days When the skies stay bummer gray And the cake taste just okay Okay? Well, I guess I'm anti-yuck Against the stuff that sucks The life out of your soul and shuts it down Yeah, and I'm against the thought Of letting good tomatoes rot Being someone that you're not When you're not Well, I guess I'm anti-hate 'Cause that ain't what it takes It's love that makes the crazy world go 'round I'm for the sun, I'm for the breeze Old dogs sleeping at your feet I'm for the girls with curls and the curves I'm for questions, I'm for freedom Celebrating every season For the bees and the trees and the dirt I'm for the birds - I'm for the birds - I'm for the birds - I'm for the birds -I'm for the birds - I'm for the birds -All right. Yeah, and I'm against the notion Of drinking with cheap potion And causing big commotion You know, son? I guess I'm anti-confrontation I'd rather have a conversation About nothing in particular at all Yeah, and I'm against them feelings The ones that get revealing Slamming hearts right into ceilings You feel me? Well, I guess I'm anti-tears I'd rather sip an ice-cold beer Listen to some country music until dawn I'm for the sun, I'm for the breeze Old dogs sleeping at your feet I'm for the girls with the curls and the curves I'm for questions, I'm for freedom Celebrating every season For the trees and the bees and the dirt I'm for feathers, I'm for wings I'm for tweedle-deedle-dee-dee-dee For what it's worth For what it's worth I'm for the birds - I'm for the birds - I'm for the birds - I'm for the birds - I'm for the birds - I'm for the birds - I'm for the birds - I'm for the birds - I'm for the birds - I'm for the birds - I'm for the birds - I'm for the birds - I'm for the birds - I'm for the birds - Tweedle-deedle-dee-dee-dee Swing your bat, bitch.

Drink in hand, took a deep breath. Whew! I get nervous sometimes. I, uh -- This was the last song I wrote for my record "The Weight of These Wings." I hadn't written one by myself that I was positive about that I liked, so I was sitting at home one night,

00 a.m., literally drinking Miller Lite, and I started writing this song about my friend Harper, who's a total hot mess in the best way. And I started writing line by line. Then I realized, as I got further down the song, that I was writing it about myself...

Well, uh, I didn't realize the last time I -- Or the first time I played here, I was 21. That was a long time ago. But I want to say I see so many familiar faces in here that have been supportive -- my friends and my family and random people I've met along the way -- so thank you for sticking with me all these years and taking my journeys with me. It means the world.

But being from Texas, I know how proud we are, so I want you to take this moment in the show and think about you and celebrate you and who you are and what you stand for, where you come from, all the good, the bad, and the ugly... because that's what it is. It takes all kinds of kinds to make the world go 'round, y'all. Doesn't it? Ilsa was an acrobat who went and fell in love With that Horatio the Human Cannonball A wedding 'neath the big-top tent With barkers, clowns, and elephants Sideshow family, oddities and all The dog-faced boy howled out with joy As the tattooed lady was crying Ever since the beginning, to keep the world spinning It takes all kinds of kinds That's right. Thomas was a Congressman with closets full of skeletons and dresses that he wore on Friday nights Phyllis was a pharmacist, a dab of that, a pinch of this Concocted to suppress her appetite When the children were fiddlin' She'd slip 'em some Ritalin And wait for Thomasina to arrive Ever since the beginning, to keep the world spinning It takes all kinds of kinds - Kinds of kinds - All kinds of kinds Oh!

Well, I guess I'll say a little something about this song because it's a new one, too. It's -- It's one of my favorites to do live because, uh... I really like to put on my sunglasses and stare at people awkwardly 'cause they can't see me. You know, I feel like I'm hiding as a person. All of my bad goes away when I put on my sunglasses. Y'all know what I mean. So...this is your chance to pretend you're somewhere else, if you want to be.

Well, uh... like any songwriter does, you use your everyday life and whatever's going on in your world to -- for your art. You suffer, you know, and... spend all this time pining and being upset, and, uh... you know, going through it. I did that. I got divorced in 2015.

But I came out brighter on the other side, but there was a few months in there that were iffy, where I found myself at the same bar three nights in a row till the ugly lights came on. Had to have a little self-check. So I wrote a song about it. I don't remember when the liquor started kicking in It's been awhile since I've been off the stuff I really hate to say I'm turning into a clich I'm hoping that nobody brings it up I left my car behind the bar again last Sunday night I did the Monday morning drive of shame In last night's clothes, they smell like smoke And I don't know how I got home But I do know my head will hurt all day 'Cause I'm still go and stay too late And be the girl bartenders hate The one that doesn't need another one When the Romeos and Juliets Have bummed all of my cigarettes The last kiss in the parking lot is done I'll be sitting here alone When the ugly lights come on

Everybody's got a spark, it's easy hiding in the dark In a crowded room with pockets full of rings I sit and watch the whiskey pour The married men, the exit door The beginning of another matchbook flame And I don't try to justify The reason I'm not livin' right Y'all, I wear my sadness like a souvenir I drink too much to fall apart That's how I fight my broken heart So what if I feel comfortable in here? 'Cause I'll still go and stay too late And be the girl bartenders hate The one that doesn't need another one When the Romeos and Juliets Have bummed all of my cigarettes The last kiss in the parking lot is done I'll be sitting here alone When the ugly lights come on

At the time that we wrote it, we all sort of took equal parts in each other's pain and put it down on paper and on a record, so, uh, I recorded it, but I wanted to do it by myself because I feel like that's where it starts, with a song and a guitar and a person and a girl and some emotions, so I'm gonna leave it there tonight.

-I just took all the emotions that were going through -- that I was going through, at the time, in my life, in the last couple years, and it took a year to record this record, so kind of run the gamut, you know, of all the -- the emotions you can have when you go through something hard. The music that I'm drawn to, that I love, that I grew up on, and that inspires me the most is honest music from honest people, and it's, you know, the music that makes you feel everything -- happy, nostalgic, mad, sad, everything in between -- so the music I want to make is that same -- that same story. I mean, I want people to know who I am. I'm not that great at talking, so I'm a singer/songwriter. That's how I relate to people, you know, on a normal, like, everyday life is through music, 'cause that's what I find that brings me comfort, and so, you know, I think the best thing to do is just keep learning how to tell your story better, because, I mean, the king of it's Guy Clark, so if I can ever just get anywhere near what he has as a storyteller, like, that would be my ultimate goal. My pink sunglasses - Ahhh, ahhh - Always makes the world look a little bit better Yeah, my pink sunglasses - Ahhh, ahhh - You can try 'em any time You need a change in the weather For $9.99, I'm completely polarized Sometimes I accidentally go to bed at night In my pink sunglasses - Ahhh, ahhh - My pink sunglasses - Ahh-ahh, ahh-ahh, ahh-ahh Ahh-ooooooh-ooh-ooh - Ahhh, ahhh - My pink sunglasses - Ahh-ahh, ahh-ahh, ahh-ahh - Ahh-ooooooh-ooh-ooh - Ahhh, ahhh - My pink sunglasses - Ahh-ahh, ahh-ahh, ahh-ahh Ahhh, ahhh Ahh-ahh
