-"Austin City Limits" presents two young artists with uniquely different talents. From the U.K., Jade Bird... - What do you need?! I get no joy I get no joy All the words my mother said Can't seem to get them out my head Everything becomes everything You live, you learn, you love, you're dead I get no joy -...and from Austin, new songs from Dayglow. - Yeah There's something on my mind There's something that I - Wish I would've told you, but you just don't seem To wonder what you're doing when you're close to me - Oh, yeah Recorded live from the Moody Theater, it's "Austin City Limits." -Now a singer-songwriter who projects joy and passion, Jade Bird. They say I act around you Different than I usually do They say that I've even Given special treatment I'd deny it but I can't What you don't seem to understand Is I won't just take your hand I've left signs but you take no notice Why's it so hard? Why's it so hard? Why's it so hard? I've given you a headstart I know us girls aren't easy But come on What do you need to see? I've given you a headstart Oooh-ooh-ooh, ooh ooh Oooh-ooh-ooh, ooh ooh I've more pride than many This is kind of rare for me Everyone knows that it's true You're the only one in the room But you don't see me, do you? Must be blind not to That's alright I'll keep on Putting myself on the li-i-ine Why's it so hard? Why's it so hard? Why's it so hard? I've given you a headstart I know us girls aren't easy But come on What do you need to see? I've given you a headstart Is there a way to get your attention Without looking like a fool? Should I slip it in our conversations? By the way, I love yo-o-ou Why's it so hard? Why's it so hard? Why's it so hard? I've given you a headstart I know us girls aren't easy But come on What do you need to see? I've given you a headstart Oooh-ooh-ooh, ooh ooh Oooh-ooh-ooh, ooh ooh Oooh-ooh-ooh, ooh ooh Oooh-ooh-ooh, ooh ooh

Thank you so much! So, if you're a creative or a musician and you have a grandma, they'll be very impressed with what you do, but never quite impressed until you write a happy song. And they'll tell you that when you write a happy song, that's really when you're gonna make it big. And when I sent my grandma this song, which coincidentally is about being in love, she went, "Oh, yeah, yeah, that's a hit." So, what you're about to listen to now, ladies and gentlemen, is a hit, according to my grandma. It's called "Prototype." Put my heart in quarantine to try and analyze What it is that forces me to love the prototype Of a first devoted, leave-in-the-night guy Poke my head into a dream To walk through the moves I'll make To see what it is that forces me for a clear mistake You're a lovephobic, leave by the first light I did it over and over till you walked into my life Oh, things got better the moment I fell When I wasn't looking, it all stood still I know with these things, you can't always tell But I love you And I think I always will
Harmonica plays
Book my high security in my satellites From a high warning to a standby And the less I am controlling, the more that's going right It's like waiting for a meteor in the morning sky If I see it for a minute Oh, it was worth the ride Oh, things got better the moment I fell When I wasn't looking, it all stood still I know with these things, you can't always tell But I love you And I think I always will
Harmonica plays
Oh, there is no shortcut from pain Maybe this is our lucky brain But I'd do it all over again And at risk is set an awful clich, hey Oh, things got better the moment I fell When I wasn't looking, it all stood still I know with these things, you can't always tell But I love you And I think I always will Hey!
Harmonica plays
I love you And I think I always will
Cheers and applause
Thank you. Thank you so much, Austin. This next song's called "Now Is The Time." Baby, put your jeans on And get your head on straight Baby, put your mind at ease On yet another rainy day Don't get too excited Keep your temper checked And just know that I know they Ain't seen the best of you yet Lucky to have met When we did I know I'm not innocent Of the grey skies in my head But I think you should hear me 'Cause I meant it when I said "Never have I ever seen a better day to get up Doesn't matter 'bout the weather Now's the time to go and get it" When you get your hair styled Come on down the stairs Turn the TV on and off again All they do is talk If I had a penny For all your potential I'd be left drowning My mouth full of metal Lucky to have met When we did I know I'm not innocent Of the grey skies in my head But I think you should hear me 'Cause I meant it when I said "Never have I ever seen a better day to get up Doesn't matter 'bout the weather Now's the time to go and get it" Baby, I know you're blue But sometimes, you gotta make a move And I'll be there with every moon But we can't keep looking at the same old view I know I'm not innocent Of the grey skies in my head But I think you should hear me 'Cause I meant it when I said "Never have I ever seen a better day to get up Doesn't matter 'bout the weather Now's the time to go and get it"

Do we have any ladies in the house tonight?
Women cheer
Do we have any fiery ladies in the house tonight?
Women cheer
I need it a little louder. Any fiery ladies in the house tonight? Come on!
Women cheer
That's more like it! I'd like to dedicate this song to you. It's called "Candidate." I swear I got a sign written on my head Don't use the stairs, go ahead and walk on me instead Every man takes me for a fool It's like I'm screaming from the top of lungs, "Hey you" If you want somebody to judge, if you want somebody to blame If you want somebody to hate, I'm a great candidate If you want to employ somebody to toy with Really why would you wanna wait? I'm a great candidate Swear I got a sign written on my back That says take all the money that you want Don't worry about paying me back If I take a second to clear my head I come back, you'll be ******** her in our bed If you want somebody to judge, if you want somebody to blame If you want somebody to hate, I'm a great candidate If you want to employ somebody to toy with Really why would you wanna wait? I'm a great candidate Give me your attention for a minute I know you think you can't get what you want But I think I've finally reached my limit Now it is your turn to take the fall Fall, faaaall If you want somebody to judge, if you want somebody to blame If you want somebody to hate, I'm a great candidate If you want to employ somebody to toy with Really why would you wanna wait? I'm a great ca-a-andidate

So, if you've not caught on by now, I can get angry. Very angry. And this next song is about that. I'd like to dedicate it to 2020. It's called "I Get No Joy." Military march in and out my head Everything I did, everything I said Take you to the arch for your happiness Or spend it like a lark singing for nothing I get no joy I get no joy All the words my mother said Can't seem to get them out my head Everything becomes everything You live, you learn, you love, you're dead I get no joy Together and apart, do it all again Right back to the start, straight up to the end I'm such a fool got everything and you Yet my heart is so blue, I'm singing for nothing I get no joy I get no joy All the words my mother said Can't seem to get them out my head Everything becomes everything You live, you learn, you love, you're dead I get no joy I swear that I don't pay attention If I did, would intervention come to me in a dream? Or is that just what the directors and the pills And other deflectors would have you believe? Psychotic, hypnotic, erotic, which box is your thing? How many days a week do you feel Electric, connected, unexpectedly affected? What do you need? What do you need?! I get no joy I get no joy All the words my mother said Can't seem to get them out my head Everything becomes everything You live, you learn, you love, you're dead I get no joy I know the sun will shine another day, another time I know the sun will shine another day, another time I know the sun will shine I know the sun will shine Electric, connected, unexpectedly affected What do you need? What do you need?! I get no joy I get no joy All the words my mother said Can't seem to get them out my head Everything becomes everything You live, you learn, you love, you're dead I get no joy I get no joy I get no joy No joy

So I want to bring someone on the stage who's extremely special to me. She's an absolute magical person and a phenomenal artist. Her name's Savannah Conley, all the way from Nashville. So please give her a very warm welcome.
Cheers and applause
So we're gonna sing somebody who's been on this stage before and is a massive hero of mine. We're gonna sing a Dolly Parton song. It's called "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind?"
Cheers and applause
- Hmm, hmmmm-mm-mm-mm-mmm Hmm, hmmmm-mm-mm-mm-mmm Bah, ba-da-da da da da dah - Sometimes I go walkin' In the fields where we walked Long ago in that sweet used-to-be And the flowers still bloom But they don't smell as sweet as they did When you picked them for me - Oh, when I think of you and the love that we once knew How I wish we could go back in time - Do you ever think back on old mem'ries like that? Do I cross your mind? Hmm, hmmmm-mm-mm-mm-mmm Hmm, hmmmm-mm-mm-mm-mmm Bah, ba-da-da da da da dah - Oh, how often I wish that again I could kiss Your sweet lips like I did long ago And how often I long for those two lovin' arms That once held me so gentle and close - Oh, when I think of you and the love we once knew How I wish we could go back in time - Do you ever think back on old mem'ries like that? Do I ever cross your mind? Hmm, hmmmm-mm-mm-mm-mmm Hmm, hmmmm-mm-mm-mm-mmm Bah, ba-da-da da da da dah - Oh, when I think of you and the love that we once knew How I wish we could go back in time - Do you ever think back on old mem'ries like that? Do I ever cross your mind?

-Thank you! This next song's about an ex of mine. It's called "Lottery."
Cheers and applause
I was 19 and you were 23 and We stayed in Number 4 Ferdinand Street We spent five talking about our lives But we'd talked like that about a thousand times And I'm bored of all that You used to tell me that love is a lottery And you got your numbers, and you're betting on me You used to say that love is a game But you got your numbers, and you play it anyway I tell you about a guy that I've been with You ask, "How old is he?" And I laugh 26, "Nah, but he's 30 How messed up is that?" "Oh, forget it" he says "I'm a jealous man" And I don't want to talk about that" You used to tell me that love is a lottery But you got your numbers, and you're betting on me You used to say that love is a game But you got your numbers, and you're betting on me Are you still betting on me? Hold on, my dear Hold on real tight It's just a numbers game in my mind And we've been here a thousand times A thousand times, a thousand You used to tell me that love is a lottery And you got your numbers, and you're betting on me You used to say that love is a game But you got your numbers, and you'll play it anyway Are you still betting on me? Ohhh ohh ohh Ohhh ohh ohh You used to tell me that love is a lottery But you got your numbers, and you're betting on me You used to tell me that love is a game But you got your numbers, and you play it anyway Are you still betting on me? Baby

This is our last song for you this evening. Thank you so much for being so wonderful. I need you to clap -- I need you to clap with me in the chorus if you can. Do you think we can get a move on?
Guitar strums
Alright! Here we go! You've got an addiction, unrealistic mission Cigarettes and alcohol, you've lost yourself Telling the same stories, you did all it last week The bar is closed and, darling Please put that bottle down One, two, three, four Come on, babe, there's the door Five, six, seven, eight I'm your girlfriend, not your mate Seven, eight, nine, ten If you go down, you won't get up again Four, three, two, one He's going, going gone Come on! Sorry, Mr. Einstein, it's already past your bedtime Acting big and talkin', get over yourself I'm sure you would go very far if you even had a car But I hate to inform you're still Living in your mother's house Yeeeeah! One, two, three, four Come on, babe, there's the door Five, six, seven, eight I'm your girlfriend, not your mate Seven, eight, nine, ten If you go down, you won't get up again Four, three, two, one He's going, going He's going, going gone Someone gonna taxi you, you were sick in the back seat Everybody's tryna calm you down Tell me what you'd do if I wasn't with you And there was nobody else around Someone gonna taxi you, you were sick in the back seat Everybody's tryna calm you down Tell me what you'd do if I wasn't with you And there was nobody else around One, two, three, four Come on, babe, there's the door Five, six, seven, eight I'm your girlfriend, not your maid Seven, eight, nine, ten If you go down, you won't get up again Four, three, two, one He's going, going Come on! -I wanted to write less about myself on this record, I thought, to grow as a writer. The best writers I love have a lot of empathy, and, like, I feel like with Elliot Smith or Dylan or, you know, anybody that I love, you feel like you're on the shoulder, looking at someone's life instead of their own almost. So I wrote a lot about me and partner's relationship, falling in love as a new thing, him, to a friend, to anybody. It was a lot about other people, this record. -Now familiar sounds with a new spin -- from Dayglow. Taking me down, where is the place? Calling a cab, showing up late Now that it's all already waste Who will you be? Your coffee to go is hotter than Hades Some people line up to see a Mercedes Don't call it a car, call it a lady What'll it be? Time won't take nothing, believe me It's you that takes the time Tell me if what makes you someone is something Then why can't I have mine? I've waited so long Okay! Take it again, edit the face Love what you see, copy and paste Isn't it magic? Don't you want to have it And say it's all mine? - That's mine! Compile the content, you're filming a mosh pit You ship it and box it right up to your doorstep Ain't it a wonder that we're going under But everyone's high? Time won't take nothing, believe me It's you that takes the time Tell me if what makes you someone is something Then why can't I have mine? I've waited so long Taking time, it's taking time, taking my time T-Taking time, t-taking time, it's taking my time T-Take the time, it's taking time Taking my time T-Take the time, man, it's taking time It's taking time
Cheers and applause
Do you know what is means When you think on a screen? Can you make memories If they're just make believe? Oh, I don't know if I can take You seriously these days So, suddenly everything's changed And we're standing in the same place Oh, yeah I'm on the outside looking in I never said what I really meant I wasn't made to be medicine for you It's true Yeah! You can't seem to make up your mind When I told you I did with mine You won't know if you never try It's true Do you know what it means? Is a sign what you see? Maybe we could agree But that's not up to me Oh, I don't know if I can say Much more about this debate So suddenly, nothing has changed I've been reading on the wrong page Oh, no I'm on the outside, looking in I never said what I really meant I wasn't made to be medicine for you It's true You can't seem to make up your mind When I told you I did with mine No, you won't know if you never try It's true Oh! Oh! I'm on the outside looking in I never said what I really meant I wasn't made to be medicine for you It's true Yeah, you can't seem to make up your mind When I told you I did with mine You won't know if you never try It's true

Everyone, thanks for being here. This is really cool. This is our -- Actually, our biggest show ever. So even though this is limited capacity, this is the most people we've played in front of anyway. So... It's not easy to be someone That you never dreamed to be To be open Is probably the hardest thing, yeah All the people in a room I didn't know All around me, I began to let it go Well, I thought that I could keep myself together But I fell apart when you walked through the door And now my eyes are looking like the weather I'm crying on the dancefloor I looked at you and felt it for a moment Thought of all the ways that it's not anymore It's not the moment that I would've chosen But now I'm crying on the dancefloor Would you believe me If I told you that you never left my mind? I keep repeating those words That you did not decide, no All the people in a room I didn't know All around me, I began to let it go And no, oh Well, I thought that I could keep myself together But I fell apart when you walked through the door And now my eyes are looking like the weather I'm crying on the dancefloor I looked at you and felt it for a moment I thought of all the ways that it's not anymore It's not the moment that I would've chosen But now I'm crying on the dancefloor Well, I thought that I could keep myself together But I fell apart when you walked through the door And now my eyes are looking like the weather I'm crying on the dancefloor I looked at you and felt it for a moment I thought of all the ways that it's not anymore It's not the moment that I would've chosen But now I'm crying on the dancefloor

I feel close Well, I'm maybe I'm not, heaven knows It's a spotlight stuck on the ceiling Why are these the things that I'm feeling? There's so much time For me to speak up, but I keep quiet I'll complicate the most of the mantra The power's out, and I can't turn the fan on So can I call you tonight? I'm trying to make up my mind Just how I feel Could you tell me what's real? I hear your voice on the phone Now I'm no longer alone Just how I feel Could you tell me what's real anymore? Cause I wouldn't know Voice so low Sneaking around, so it goes I always try my best to listen Picking up things that I can fidget Circle speed Pacing around, watching my feet Batteries drain, I get the memo "I think that I might have to let you go" So can I call you tonight? Trying to make up my mind Just how I feel Could you tell me what's real? I hear your voice on the phone Now I'm no longer alone Just how I feel Could you tell me what's real anymore? Cause I wouldn't know -We're sorry -- you have reached a number that has been disconnected or is no longer in service. If you feel you have reached this recording in error, please check the number and try your call again. Don't go, don't go so easy Don't go, don't go and leave me Don't go, don't go so easy Don't go, don't go and leave me Don't go, don't go so easy Don't go, don't go and leave me Don't go, don't go so easy Don't go, go So can I call you tonight? I'm trying to make up my mind Just how I feel Could you tell me what's real? I hear your voice on the phone Now I'm no longer alone Just how I feel Could you tell me what's real anymore? 'Cause I wouldn't know
Cheers and applause
I saw you looking for the side door You didn't want to stick around for The rest of the night I guess that's alright They all left when you walked home It makes sense that they all know It was only for you If only you knew What good is love Without any strings? Held it above Stuck in between Yeah! Tell me for once What that even means I wanna know you But can't make it right There's something on my mind Yeah, there's something that I - Wish I would've told you, but you just don't seem To wonder what you're doing when you're close to me - Oh, yeah There's something on my chest I wish I would've said I think it over, and it might be true I'm only overthinking when I'm close to you - We locked eyes from a distance So close but I missed it Now you're walking away When I wish you would stay I get stuck in a conversation Different night, same situation I beat myself up For not speaking up Every night I can't make it right, yeah There's something on my mind There's something that I - Wish I would've told you, but you just don't seem To wonder what you're doing when you're close to me - Oh, yeah There's something on my chest I wish I would've said - I think it over, and it might be true I'm only overthinking when I'm close to you Only overthinking when I'm close to you I'm only overthinking when I'm close to you I'm only overthinking when I'm close to you Oh, yeah

-This is really cool. Really, really awesome. It's surreal! Like, I don't know. There's been all this stuff. As a musician, there's been all these, like -- I know there's people watching on a livestream, but there's been all these livestreams and stuff, and to be with people is really awesome. So it's amazing that we can do that, you know?
Cheers and applause
Because, you know... as cheesy as it sounds, it really could not happen without all of you here, you know, so just thank you for being here. This is awesome, okay?!
Cheers and applause
