-"Austin City Limits" presents singer, songwriter, composer and producer FINNEAS.
- Cryin' out loud I'm calling your name And you're wearing me out But I love you the same For cryin' out loud Your heart is a maze And you're running your mouth But I'm singing your praises Honey, what you running from?
And where the hell you headed to?
Do you like the way I run after you?
Go get em, Ricky.
-Thank you, Austin City Limits!
-It's Austin City Limits!

- Pickin' all the petals off Every flower that you come across Your eyes are closed, your voice is soft Honey, I'm afraid I'm lost Sweep the glass up off the floor Sell the clothes you never wore Tell me that you wanted more Are you sure?
You star... I loved you Against my better judgment In the evenin', when you're leavin' Your promises have lost their meanin' I was yours before You were cool Cross the names off a list Cartier around your wrist I was such an optimist But you're a... narcissist The driver's pullin' back around I'm sorry I'm so tightly wound You think you're so underground But you're so much less profound You star... I loved you Against my better judgment In the mornin', without warnin' You said your life was borin' I was yours before You were cool You star...
I trusted you Against my better judgment Watched the sunrise, tears in your eyes If you'd just apologized, I'd still be yours For sure But you're cruel [ Cheers and applause ] Say it like you mean it Couldn't keep a secret And maybe you could leave it out, o-out Backseat and my teeth hurt Blowing out the speaker I'm the lotus eater now Did you figure me out?
Who's the mystery now?
Grab my wrist till your knuckles are white It's a brand-new kiss in the same old light In a Friday bliss on a Sunday night I wanna feel like this till I feel alright I wanna Say it like you mean it - I wanna feel like this till I feel alright - Couldn't keep a secret - I wanna feel like this till I feel alright - I kind of think we're even now But did you figure me out?
Who's the mystery now?
I think I figured you out Not such a mystery now Grab my wrist till your knuckles are white It's a brand-new kiss in the same old light In a Friday bliss on a Sunday night I wanna feel like this till I -- I figure it out - I wanna feel like this till I feel alright I wanna feel like this till I feel alright - Who's the mystery now?
- I wanna feel like this till I feel alright I wanna feel like this till I feel alright - As she slips out the door She's hard to feel sorry for Such a cool girl - But it's a cruel world - Take a drag Take a walk Plastic bags Classic rock She's such a cool girl - But it's a cruel world Did you figure me out?
- Ooh - Who's the mystery now?
- Ooh - I think I figured you out Not such a mystery now [ Cheers and applause ] - It's a little touch and go You could be the crutch that she holds She's got herself a sprained ankle If you know, you know Bad things always come in threes And when you broke your thumb, you lost your keys And she plays for a different team Scraping her knees But it's all the same to you When she's standing in your room On an endless afternoon And the summer's over soon Well, maybe she's a late bloomer Or maybe it's a fake rumor But you've got the same sense of humor As her She's always at the wheel, you're often on her street You don't know how to feel, you don't know how to sleep Like it'll never heal, your heart's still in the weeds Straight off the soccer field She's still wearing her cleats But it's all the same to you When she's standing in your room On an endless afternoon And the summer's over soon If it's all a waste of time - A waste of time - If it's all a silver lining - A silver lining - If it's all a warning sign - A warning sign - If she's always on your mind - She's always - There's nothing you can do either Old crush on your new teacher Wave as soon as you see her From the bleachers [ Cheers and applause ] Thanks so much, everybody.
Thanks for being here.
My name is FINNEAS.
Treat to be with you.
These are my friends.
I was in a band with David over here on keys from the time I was like about 14 years old.
[ Laughs ] And, um, we sucked.
We were not super good when we were that age.
And, um, then the stuff that I started to make with Billie started to really take off and I felt like, oh, my God, I feel so lucky.
And we started to get reached out to by labels and managers and we started to get to play shows, and I was still making music under my own name, and I suddenly was like, oh, my God, now I know all of these people.
I know all these people that work at labels.
Like, I can just send them all my music and they'll love it.
And they did not love my music.
But I just decided to put stuff out under my own name anyway, independently, because I was writing songs that I was proud of and passionate about.
[ Applause ] From the start of 2018 to the end of 2018, I put out eight songs on their own, and they just started to do really well, and I started to get some attention on my own just from people liking the music and sharing it with their friends.
And, so, I just want to say that, if you feel like something isn't working out for you and you flash forward many, many years, you might be very surprised to see where you are.
I'm very surprised and grateful to be here on my own, and I'm excited to be here playing the show with my buddies tonight.
[ Cheers and applause ] Couldn't take my eyes off you - You're something else - She's watching, too - Can't help herself - Sweet cherries do - How could you tell?
- I know you too well Couldn't take my eyes off you - You're something else - She's watching, too - Can't help herself - Sweet cherries do - How could you tell?
- I know you too well She'll break your heart with her hands tied She's got a car waiting outside for you You bought a house on a landslide With a hell of a view She likes it hot, likes it greasy She says she's not, but she's easy for you You're on the rot, she's on TV With a key to your room But someone's gotta break her fall And if you're gonna take her call I know you're gonna say it's her fault But you knew it all then, and you'd do it all again I couldn't take my eyes off you - You're something else - She's watching, too - Can't help herself - Sweet cherries do - And you can tell - I know you too well I couldn't take my eyes off you - You're something else - She's watching too - Can't help herself - Sweet cherries do - And you can tell - I think I know you too well Whoo!
David Marinelli on the keys.
[ Cheering ] [ Cheers and applause ] What's it gonna take to break your heart?
- What's it gonna take to break your heart?
- Do you think I'd even leave a mark?
- Do you think I'd even leave a mark?
- Who you gonna call when it gets dark?
- Who you gonna call when it gets dark?
- What's it gonna take to break your heart?
- What's it gonna take to break your heart?
- If you only knew the way I pray for you There's nothing I can do If you only knew I don't mind making room, I just want more of you What's it gonna take to break your heart?
- What's it gonna take to break your heart?
- Do you think I'd even leave a mark?
- Do you think I'd even leave a mark?
- You could bury all the power lines And cut out all the middlemen We could play it, rain or shine If it ever rains again You could tell me when you see the signs So I know it's happening Like lovers going back in time Like lovers going back to friends And I don't think about it till it's too late When you're not around, I don't appreciate it I don't think about it till it's too late, oh, oh What's it gonna take to break your heart?
- What's it gonna take to break your heart?
- Do you think I'd even leave a mark?
- Do you think I'd even leave a mark?
- Oh, honey, if you only knew the way I pray for you There's nothing I can do If you only knew I don't mind making room, I just want more of you What's it gonna take to break your heart?
- What's it gonna take to break your heart?
- Who you gonna call when it gets dark?
- Who you gonna call when it gets dark?
-On the drums this evening, we're so lucky to have Miles Morris.
Like you can't afford it Like it's all imported Like it's hard to score it - If you only knew - I've been waitin' for ya Like you're Sunday mornin' Like you're coffee pourin', I want more of you Like you can't afford it Like it's all imported Like it's hard to score it, if you only knew I've been waitin' for it Like you're Sunday mornin' Like you're coffee pourin', I want more of you What's it gonna take to break your heart?
[ Cheers and applause ] Thanks, guys.
Stuck waitin' for you on the dark side of the moon With an unbeatable view at a table for two Texas calls to take me home Spent too much time alone Honey, what you runnin' from?
When you comin' back to bed?
You could toss and turn it all night long with me instead Honey, what you runnin' from?
And where the hell you headed to?
Do you like the way I run after you?
2001, life or death, you did it for fun Oh, well, you flew too close to the sun And look what you've done Texas calls, you're out of range They say they're pickin' up somethin' strange Honey, what you runnin' from?
When you comin' back to bed?
You can toss and turn it all night long with me instead Honey, what you runnin' from?
And where the hell you headed to?
Do you like the way I run after you?
Go get em, Ricky.
Honey, what you runnin' from?
When you comin' back to bed?
You can toss and turn it all night long with me instead Honey, what you runnin' from?
And where the hell you headed to?
Do you like the way I run after you?
It doesn't have to It doesn't have to be Such an odyssey It doesn't have to It doesn't have to be Such an odyssey [ Cheers and applause ] Just a little window Glowing in the dark To give you all the info To keep you where you are Honey, what's on your mind?
Everything all the time Comedy forever Laughing to yourself Birds with bloody feathers And no way you could help Honey, I'm seeing signs Everywhere all the time Tears in your eyes Brush them aside And have a nice day Not a cloud in the sky And you're still alive But you don't look that way Just a little window Shining on your face Used to watch the sunrise Now, you've lost track of days Honey, what's on your mind?
Everything all the time Tears in your eyes Brush them aside And have a nice day There's not a cloud in the sky You're still alive But you don't look that way, oh, oh Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh Buy yourself a halo To illuminate your room Just a little window Looking back at you [ Cheers and applause ] -Thank you.
So we thought it would be fun to play a little new song for you, if that's okay.
[ Cheering ] My dirty secret in an old coat pocket My dirty laundry underneath your bed I had a dream I had you in my kitchen And now you're in my head You're living in my head A Palomino in the middle of Jackson I wasn't wild, but I could have been I like the way you answer all my questions "Can I see you again?"
"Can I see you again?"
If I want to If I have you on my mind If I'm patient If it's complicated, then it's complicated I toss and turn until I sweat my clothes off I walk beneath the low winter sun I like the way you say you say, "No," so often You could have anyone You could have anyone If you want to If you have me on your mind If you're patient If it's complicated, then it's complicated It's a good time till you overdo it Kissed me good-bye like there's nothing to it It's a good time till you overdo it Kissed me good-bye, kissed me good-bye If you want to You could have me all the time If you're patient If it's complicated, then it's complicated Then it's complicated, then it's complicated My dirty secret in a cheap, white dresser I kept my promise in a neon glow I should have known that you were out there somewhere If I could let you go, I would've let you go [ Cheers and applause ] - Out on our own Dreaming in a world that we both know Is out of our control But if... hits the fan, we're not alone 'Cause you've got me and you know That I've got you and I know - If the tide takes California I'm so glad I got to hold ya And if the sky falls from Heaven above Oh, I know I had the best time falling into love We've been living on a fault line For a while, you were all mine I've spent a lifetime giving you my heart I swear that I'll be yours forever Till forever falls apart Till forever falls apart So this is it, that's how it ends Well, I guess there's nothing more romantic Than dying with your friends And I'm not sorry for myself I wouldn't wanna spend a minute loving anybody else 'Cause you've got me and you know That I've got you and I know If the tide takes California I'm so glad I got to hold ya And if the sky falls from Heaven above Oh, I know I had the best time falling into love We've been living on a fault line And for a while, you were all mine I've spent a lifetime giving you my heart I swear that I'll be yours forever Till forever falls apart Till forever falls apart We never had it from the start Till death do us part If the tide takes California I'm so glad I got to know ya And if the sky falls from Heaven above Oh, I know I've had the best time falling into love - We've been living on a fault line And for a while, you were all mine - I've spent a lifetime giving you my heart I swear that I'll be yours forever Till forever falls apart [ Cheers and applause ] This song is called "Family Feud."
Mom and Dad are out of town The two of us are grown-ups now Pepper had to be put down Hard to take, hard to own Not hard to break a collarbone A little late, but not alone And you're only 22 And the world is watchin' you Judgin' everything you do Just a house and just a room Just a handful of balloons Just another afternoon Just the way it almost was When it's just the two of us Sleep all day, I'll wake you up When it's just the two of us Quiet trip, chaperone Got homesick, got sent home Mom and Dad are on the phone And you're only 22 And there's nothin' I can do Made mistakes, you'll make 'em, too A part of me is part of you Just a different shade of blue Just a little family feud Just the way it almost was When it's just the two of us Sleep all day, I'll wake you up When it's just the two of us And you're only 23 And you're right where you should be A little too far away from me But I know you're happy [ Cheers and applause ] I lost a friend Like keys in a sofa Like a wallet in the back seat Like ice in the summer heat I lost a friend Like sleep on a red-eye Like money on a bad bet Like time worrying about Every bad thing that hasn't happened yet I know I'll be alright But I'm not tonight I've been lying awake counting all the mistakes I've made Replaying fights I know I'll be alright But I'm not tonight I lost a friend, I lost a friend, I lost my mind And nobody believes me Say, "I know that he don't need me 'Cause he made a little too much money to be 20 and sad" And I'll be fine without him But all I do is write about him How the hell did I lose a friend I never had?
Never had And I'm on the mend Like I'm wearing a neck brace Like I'm sleeping at my own place Like I'm pulling all the stitches out of my own face I'm on the mend Like I'm icing a new sprain Like I'm walking on a new cane Like it's been a couple days since I slipped And said something sort of like your name I know I'll be alright But I'm not tonight I've been lying awake counting all the mistakes I've made Replaying fights I know I'll be alright But I'm not tonight And I'm on the mend But I lost a friend, I lost my mind And nobody believes me Say, "I know that he don't need me 'Cause he made a little too much money to be 20 and sad" And I'll be fine without him But all I do is write about him How the hell did I lose a friend I never had?
I'd apologize If I thought it might make a difference Or make you listen I'd apologize If it was black and white But life is different Just try to listen to me now I know I'll be alright But I'm not tonight I lost a friend, I lost a friend, I lost my mind - And nobody believes me Say, "I know that he don't need me - 'Cause he made a little too much money to be 20 and sad" And I'll be fine without him But all I do is write about him How the hell did I lose a friend that I never had?
Never had [ Cheers and applause ] When I grew up, I did not have the channels on TV.
My family could not afford cable television.
[ Woman whoops ] Which meant I grew up on PBS.
[ Cheers and applause ] I watched PBS relentlessly as a child, and I still consume it now.
And growing up, I watched these "ACL" events on PBS, often with my parents in the kitchen on their small, small, little TV that they had above the sink so they could watch concerts like this while they were doing the dishes.
[ Cheers and applause ] Let's fall in love for the night And forget in the mornin' Play me a song that you like You can bet I'll know every line I'm the boy that your boy hoped that you would avoid Don't waste your eyes on jealous guys... that noise I know better than to call you mine [ Cheering ] You need a pick-me-up?
Well, I'll be there in 25 I like to push my luck So take my hand, let's take a drive I've been livin' in the future Hopin' I would see you sooner I want you, riding shotgun I knew when I got one right Let's fall in love for the night And forget in the mornin' Play me a song that you like You can bet I'll know every line I'm the boy that your boy hoped that you would avoid Don't waste your eyes on jealous guys... that noise I know better than to call you mine I love it when we talk that nerdy... We're in our 20s talking 30s... We're making money but we're savin' it 'Cause talking...
is cheap and we talk a lot of it You won't stay with me, I know But you can have your way with me until you go And before your kisses turn into bruises, I'm a-warning Let's fall in love for the night And forget in the mornin' Play me a song that you like You can bet I'll know every line Oh I'm the boy that your boy hoped that you would avoid Don't waste your eyes on jealous guys... that noise 'Cause I know better I know better I know better than to ever Ever, ever call you Mine [ Cheers and applause ] -Last one.
Thank you to everyone on my crew, tour managers, everybody sharing this stage with us, handing us guitars, doing sound.
Get home safe tonight, everybody.
Thanks for being here.
[ Cheers and applause ] Thank you, PBS.
Thank you, Austin City Limits.
Maybe it's me, or maybe it's you Maybe I never learned my lesson Someone to seek, someone to soothe Someone to answer all your questions I don't know what to tell ya, maybe I never knew I'm not tryin' to make you jealous But it looks so good on you Been stuck on elevators, in airports, and empty rooms Been stuck here, waiting for you For cryin' out loud, I'm calling your name And you're wearing me out, but I love you the same For cryin' out loud, your heart is a maze And you're running your mouth, but I'm singing your praises - Ooh - All of your clothes all over the floor All of it happened in a hurry You show me the ropes, then you show me the door Why don't you show me why you're so worried?
You're sweating off your makeup You're running every light What's gonna help you wake up won't help you sleep at night Sometimes I see your future, sometimes I'm not so bright Sometimes you're looking for a fight For cryin' out loud, I'm calling your name And you're wearing me out, but I love you the same For cryin' out loud, your heart is a maze And you're running your mouth, but I'm singing your praises - Ooh Ooh - For cryin' out loud, I'm calling your name And you're wearing me out, but I love you the same For cryin' out loud, your heart is a maze And you're running your mouth, but I'm singing your praises Watch what you say when you're talking to me The meaner you are, the harder to leave Walking away with your kiss on my cheek And a bruise underneath, for cryin' out loud [ Cheers and applause ] [ Cheers and applause ]
