Today, I want to show you how to make a really simple, a really delicious, and a really elegant apple tarte.

The first thing we're gonna do is prepare the crust.

The key to great pie crust is to keep all of your ingredients cold.

So I measure out my flour, my butter, my water, and put everything in the freezer for just a minute to chill up before I start making my dough in the processor.

[processor whirring] Now, this crust is so easy, and it can be served as a sweet crust or even a savory crust.

Really learn how to make this.

Put it in your back pocket.

Use it all the time.

You'll never have to go to the store for a pre-made pie crust ever again.

Let's get started.

The first thing we're gonna do is add a cup and a half of all-purpose flour.

A half a stick of cold butter.

Next, add a quarter cup of white sugar, one egg yolk, and then drizzle in your ice-cold water, a teaspoon at a time, just until your dough comes together.

I'll lightly flour my surface and then turn the dough right out onto there.

And then using my hands, I'm gonna form that into a disk.

Wrap the disk of dough in plastic wrap and then pop it in the freezer to chill while you prepare your filling.

The first step in the filling, you're gonna want to peel your apples.

For this recipe, you'll need three to four apples, depending on the size.

Go ahead and core them.

I find using a melon baller makes really quick work of coring the apples.

And now, we're gonna slice up the apples.

I like to slice my apples as thin as possible.

It just helps create a really beautiful design and the apples all cook evenly and perfect.

Toss the apple slices with one tablespoon of lemon juice.

Set the apples aside, and now it's time to roll out our dough.

Roll out your dough into a circle.

You can use your rolling pin to place the dough into your tart shell.

And now, you can arrange your apples.

Now, I'm gonna make the topping.

It's also very simple.

Combine one tablespoon of flour, a half a stick of butter, and one-third cup of sugar.

Using your hands, you're just gonna crumble that up, and then, sprinkle over the apples.

Put the tart into the oven at 375 for about 35 minutes until the apples are cooked through and the top is a nice, golden brown.

Serve with a dollop of fresh whipped cream.
