The Runaway Calf and a fairground adventure
– Jerry Apps: I want to tell you a story about volunteers.
One more.
This this gentleman happens to be, today, a circuit judge in central Wisconsin.
He was a volunteer.
He said, "One day, I'm there.
"I'm all dressed up, ready to go to court.
"I'm stopped at the fair to see if everything's going okay.
"And a youngster's calf had run away.
"I'm running after this calf, along with several other people.
"And we run all the way across the fairgrounds.
I finally catch the calf by the tail."
Oh, don't do that.
And he did.
And he had to go home and change clothes and shower before he went to court.
[laughing] But he managed to stop the calf for the kid.
The runaway calf is a continuing story at many fairs.
I have all kinds of those stories, but that one's kind of special.
