For Jeffrey, simply seeing the evidence that these ancestors existed at all was profoundly moving. It's, you know, it's just empowering for me because, for a couple reasons. One, to have emerged out of those difficulties as a family, to have survived and flourished in spite of the resistance to that by external forces, I take strength out of. But also, when I look at these blank spaces, I take strength from that too because the blank spaces there were not the ones who tried to render themselves invisible. -
