Finding Your Roots

(upbeat music) Much like Thai, Joe Madison had a mystery in his family tree but Joe's mystery was closer to home. Growing up, he spent very little time living with his parents and came to me with basic questions about his roots. And when we tested his DNA, we discovered that Joe knew even less than he thought. His results revealed that the man he believed to be his biological father, Felix Edward Madison, was in fact not related to him at all. It was such a shocking discovery that I felt compelled to call Joe at home before our interview to let him know in private, away from any TV cameras. Even weeks later, Joe was still trying to process the news. Joe, one of the most difficult phone calls I ever had to make, was the Saturday morning when I called you to tell you that that man Felix Edward Madison according to your DNA is not your biological father. And I didn't know how you would take this. If somebody told me that I don't know how I would take it. It would be a big shake. - Well, I appreciated your sincerity and concern. And, you know I thought about it and it just, there was this curiosity, and then the real question is then who was. (upbeat music)
