-Now, a Grammy Award-winner for Best Americana Album -- Sarah Jarosz. - Up by the window of the seventh floor There's a little bird stretching her wings She's looking down at the world far below her I can hear the little tune that she sings She says, "We all have our notions, baby" We all laugh and sigh And when the world on the ground Is gonna swallow you down Sometimes you've got to pay it no mind There is a time for shouting There is a time to fight And if your heart's wide open You might start to get the notion That nothing's going right But if you're wise, you know that sometimes, baby It don't help to yell and cry And when the world makes you frown Don't let it swallow you down Sometimes you've got to pay it no mind Sometimes you've got to pay it no mind You know the world keeps turning without you, baby But it's okay to yell and cry And when the ghosts on your screen They demand to be seen Sometimes you've got to pay it no mind Pay it no mind.
Instrumental interlude
Up by the window of the seventh floor My little bird's getting ready to fly She's had enough of the world down below her And now she's looking up at the sky She says, "We all have our notions, baby" We all laugh and sigh And when the world on the ground Is gonna swallow you down Sometimes you've got to pay it no mind Sometimes you've got to pay it no mind Sometimes you've got to pay it no mind

"Hometown" plays
On the verge of a breakdown Back in her hometown Never thought she'd settle down In a place like this Cold coffee on the back porch Wooden chair rocking back and forth Now she wonders how it all went down Back in her hometown Most people never left Found a job and filled in the rest Never got around to leaving the nest Holding on to not let go But that path just wasn't for her She got out faster than the fireworks Never took time to slow it down Now she's back in her hometown Looking out at the cedars and the oaks The mourning dove sings beneath the sky of blue All the thoughts that led her out On that road, without a doubt Somewhere they fizzled out Now she's back in her hometown
Instrumental interlude
What makes a life complete? Roads traveled and people you meet? Or is it just the silence of the times in between? Her mind's racing as she sits alone In the place that she used to call home Memories are all around Back in her hometown Looking out at the light above the hills Her mama sings beneath the sky of blue All the thoughts that led her out On that road, without a doubt Somewhere they fizzled out Back in her hometown Somewhere they fizzled out Back in her hometown

Ladies and gentlemen, I'm so happy to have him here as a special guest. And he produced World on the Ground. Please give a huge hand for John Leventhal.
Cheers and applause
My record World on the Ground came out almost a year ago to the day. It was June 5th last summer. And never got to play any shows, obviously, when that record came out. But a lot of the record is very inspired by growing up here in Austin, in Wimberley, and a lot of the songs were kind of reaching back to -- Yeah, you can clap for that if you want. Reaching --

Cheers and applause
Kind of reaching back into a lot of the history that I have growing up here and just what a special place it was to grow up, so... And then I went to New York and made the record with John, and we had a wonderful time doing so. So, it's fun to get to play these songs live. -Well, you're too modest to tell them, but I don't mind bragging a little bit. And we won a Grammy for it. How about that?
Cheers and applause
-We did! -Not the best year to put a record out, but it was really nice to win that Grammy. -It was a light -- It was a nice light at the end of the tunnel.
Chuckles
So, that was very special. And this feels like a celebration, getting to play these songs live.

"Johnny" plays
Johnny's on the back porch drinking red wine He knows that it could be the very last time He raises the glass up to his lips and wonders How could a boy from a little bay town Grow up to be a man, fly the whole world round Then end back up on the same damn ground he started? You might not get what you pay for You know that nothing's for sure And an open heart looks a lot Like the wilderness Lately he's been thinking 'bout the meaning of time The small amount we're given must be some sort of crime Yet the little we have feels like too much most of the time He takes another sip of that blood-red wine Just waiting on the stars that will never align A little luck, a little love, a little light And he'll be doing just fine You might not get what you pay for You know that nothing's for sure And an open heart looks a lot Like the wilderness So open up your heart, take it out Put it back in Signs are all around you Let it begin You might not get what you pay for You know that nothing's for sure And an open heart looks a lot Like the wilderness You might not get what you pay for You know that nothing's for sure And an open heart looks a lot Like the wilderness

"Maggie" plays
Look away while you still can Close your eyes, say goodbye to this strange land You never thought you had it good And high school was just football games And processed food You've been picking through the weeds too long Surrounded by the echoes of a dream gone wrong And running through the fields that led To nothing but a song you're singing in your head Drive across the desert in a blue Ford Escape Hopefully this car will live up to its name You got 90 miles out of town When you started thinking you should turn the car around Go back home to your reckless dad Maybe this time he'll convince you that it's not so bad But then you snapped back down from outer space And stared into the rearview mirror at your face Your swollen eyes and beaded sweat Tattoos on your forehead and around your neck Drive across the desert in a blue Ford Escape Hopefully this car will live up to its name
Musical interlude
Drive across the desert in a blue Ford Escape Hopefully this car will live up to its name Maggie, are you listening in your blue Ford Escape? Hopefully your car will live up to its name
Cheers and applause
Thank y'all.
"What Do I Do?" plays
Early morning, waking up Took a sip from the coffee cup Eyes half open, blood-shot blue Could not sleep like I wanted to What do I do? What do I do this for? What do I do this for? I do this for you What do I do? What do I do this for? What do I do this for? I do this for you
Instrumental interlude
Come tomorrow, I'll be gone A thousand miles away from home How I wish I could just stay here Sit beside you, whisper in your ear What do I do? What do I do this for? What do I do this for? I do this for you What did I do? What did I do before? What did I do before? I knew it was you
Instrumental interlude
What do I Do? What do I Do?

Guitar plays "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For"
I have climbed highest mountains I have run through the fields Only to be with you Only to be with you I have run, I have crawled I have scaled these city walls These city walls Only to be with you But I still haven't found what I'm looking for But I still haven't found what I'm looking for I have kissed honey lips Felt the healing in her fingertips It burned like fire This burning desire I have spoke with the tongue of the angels I have held the hand of the devil It was warm in the night I was cold as the stone But I still haven't found what I'm looking for But I still haven't found what I'm looking for I believe in the kingdom come Then all the colors will bleed into one Bleed into one But, yes, I'm still running You broke the bonds, and you loosened the chains Carried the cross of my shame Oh, my shame You know I believe it But I still haven't found what I'm looking for But I still haven't found what I'm looking for No, I still haven't found what I'm looking for No, I still haven't found What I'm looking for

"I'll Be Gone" plays
Ready or not, the end is near I think it's time to get out of here When every fire is burning, dear I'll be gone There is a time, it's coming soon It all could happen this afternoon And while you're hiding in your living room I'll be gone In the wake of the coming hour The midnight flood and the meteor shower I'm gonna run while I still have time And drink a glass of the finest wine Let me toast the end of it all I'll need a lift before the fall Before the flames consume the walls I'll be gone I'll be
Instrumental interlude
You never said what you meant to say But it's too late for that, anyway Maybe in another life, someday If you just hang on I'd stick around, but it ain't no use Too many bodies out on the loose And I don't need an excuse 'Cause I'll be gone In the wake of the coming hour The midnight flood and the meteor shower I'm gonna run while I still have time And drink a glass of the cheapest wine Let me toast the end of it all I'll need a lift before the fall Before the flames consume the walls I'll be gone In the wake of the coming hour The midnight flood and the meteor shower I'm gonna run while I still have time In the wake of the coming hour The midnight flood and the meteor shower I'm gonna run while I still have time In the wake of the coming hour The midnight flood and the meteor shower I'm gonna run while I still have time

-Now another Grammy Award-winner for Best Bluegrass Album -- Billy Strings.
Guitar plays
- I ain't slept in seven days, I haven't ate in three Methamphetamine has got a damn good hold of me My tweaker friends have got me to the point of no return I just took the lighter to the bulb and watched it burn This life of sin - Life of sin - Has got me in - Got me in - Well, it's got me back in prison once again I used my only phone call to contact my daddy I got 20 long years for some dust in a baggie
Instrumental interlude
Now, if I would have listened to what Mom and Papa said I wouldn't be locked up in prison, troubled in the head Well, I took that little pop And sucked until my mind was spun I got 20 years to sit and think of what I've done This life of sin - Life of sin - Has got me in - Got me in - Well, it's got me back in prison once again I used my only phone call to contact my daddy I got 20 long years for some dust in a baggie Well, sometimes I sit and wonder Where my little life went wrong These old jailhouse blues have got me singing this old song My life is a disaster, Lord, and I feel so ashamed In here where they call me by a number, not a name This life of sin - Life of sin - Has got me in - Got me in - Well, it's got me back in prison once again I used my only phone call to contact my daddy I got 20 long years for some dust in a baggie This life of sin - Life of sin - Has got me in - Got me in - Well, it's got me back in prison once again I used my only phone call to contact my daddy I got 20 long years for some dust in a baggie I used my only phone call to contact my daddy I got 20 long years for some dust in a baggie

Whoo! Thank you, folks! Yes, it's so great to be here at Austin City Limits. And it's always been a dream of mine, really, to play here. I remember watching the show back when I was real small. My dad and mom would record the show on our VCR. And I remember seeing Larry Sparks on there and Ralph Stanley and Bill Monroe and a lot of them amazing bluegrass musicians. And, you know, I said something about that earlier today, and then my mom reminded me, she said, "Yeah, you know, we used to record them shows until you shoved a peanut butter and jelly sandwich into the VCR."

"Must Be Seven" plays
Dirty broken dishes, cigarette burns on the floor She held a look of disbelief and wandered through the door To have a seat and meet the parents of a child That was heading the wrong way And it's probably seven years Since she turned around and hit the road that day Well, paper tearing off the walls, a rotten, moldy sink Well, he wandered to the counter Just to fix himself a drink Like there wasn't something wrong Like he couldn't see the sorrow in the soul And it must be seven years since he tipped his hat And told 'em all, "So long"
Instrumental interlude
Well, she was so distracted by the color of the room She never thought that she would see Her brittle flower bloom And take the cards that he was dealt And build a house the big, bad wolf could not blow down And it must be seven years now Since they got out of that town She said, "Stay on track" Don't let me see you lookin' back Never mind what's left behind, and don't look back Don't look back Well, the house shrunk in the rearview And they left it far behind It faded out of sight, back to the shadows of her mind Like the shards of shattered mirrors Broken pieces scattered o'er the burial ground And it must be seven years now Since they got out of that town She said, "Stay on track" Don't let me see you lookin' back Never mind what's left behind, and don't look back Don't look back Alright.

"Red Daisy" plays
Daisy, red daisy Growin' on a hill Sunshine fallin' on her petals so fine At first when I found her all covered in the dew The stars had all faded, the day was brand-new Daisy, red daisy Growin' on a hill Sunshine fallin' on her petals so fine
Instrumental interlude
When skies are gloomy, and you're covered in the frost Oh, daisy, red daisy, I fear my soul is lost Daisy, red daisy Growin' on a hill Sunshine fallin' on her petals so fine Hey! Well, queen of the springtime, my body's gettin' old Now, winter wind might bite me But I'll keep you from the cold Daisy, red daisy Growin' on a hill Sunshine fallin' on her petals so fine One day a passing traveler plucked you from the ground Oh, how I miss you and your crimson crown

"Love Like Me" plays
Well, we'll slow it down a little bit here and do one that was on our Home album, and it's called "Love Like Me." You could climb the highest mountain You could swim the deepest sea You could walk that lonesome valley And never find a love like me All the thorny roses blooming All the leaves upon the vine All of nature's fairest treasures I'll not know till you are mine Darling, if you'll walk beside me I will be a steady hand If you need a rock to stand on Honey, I will be your man If the sun refused to shine, dear And the clouds held back their rain If the world should turn upon you Don't forget you know my name You could climb the highest mountain You could swim the deepest sea You could walk that lonesome valley And never find a love like me

"Away From the Mire" plays
Remember the time we were both eye-to-eye And we both knew the reasons why? It seemed like we'd face the world on our own Before we collide, can we just take a moment Collecting reflections of this And remember the path that we chose? Spring lied to us this year again I can't stand to face the fear again You could always laugh about those things It's enough to make a man feel sour Burning minutes every day by the hour Just to end up gone like everything else
Instrumental interlude
Let go of the pain, and hold on to the rhythm That's consciously held back in you Drowning a sorrow that's long been at rest The past is a hell, it can creep up inside you So let me remind you of this It's the reason your troubles exist Spring lied to us again this year Still I can't stand to face the fear You could always laugh about those things Yes. It's enough to make a man stay humble Every day is just a new chance to stumble Just to end up gone like everything else If ever a time comes around in the wheel To replace where we stand side by side We'll be ready and able to fly Away from the mire And the senseless decisions of somebody's wasted desire Through the smoke and the wind and the fire Spring lied to us this year again I can't stand to face the fear again Well, you always laugh about those things It's enough to make a man feel sour Burning minutes every day by the hour Just to end up gone like everything else
