So who's the other psycho?
[ Laughter ] [ Applause ] [ Telephone rings ] [ Ringing continues ] Better get that.
[ Laughter ] Hello?
[ Dog barks ] Oh, that's my dog, Bobby Rhubarb, calling from backstage.
[ Dog barks ] [ Cheers and applause ] Hello, Bobby.
How may I help you?
We're kind of busy up here right now.
[ Dog barking ] Oh, you think the show needs to be funnier?
[ Dog barking ] [ Laughter ] Uh, you have a joke for everyon-- [ Dog barks ] Okay.
Uh...
Okay.
What's your joke?
I'll translate into human.

[ Dog barking, cheers and applause ] Okay, here it is.
[ "Puppy and a Truck" plays ] My forties are kicking my ass And handing them to me in a margarita glass I was infatuated with an older man And then I dated a psychopath So I'm 44 in 2020 and Thank God I saved up some money Time to ruminate like, what the...was that?
[ Cheering ] Like a shot of good luck I got a puppy and a truck If you feel like giving up Shut up Get a puppy and a truck I don't...with MOPAR, Tesla, or Ford I'm a Chevrolet angel, lord Traded my '64 Malibu for a van And to tell you the truth That's the only regret I have I need a dog that's hypoallergenic In the poodle milieu and photogenic Don't shed, don't bark And can play in the band Like a shot of good luck I got a puppy and a truck If you see us rolling up Thumbs up Puppy and a truck I don't got no kids, I don't got no kids I don't got no roots I'm an orphan Catch me if you can I'm lacing up my boots Like a shot of good luck Get a puppy and a truck And some unconditional love Like a shot of good luck I got a puppy and a truck If you see us rolling up Say what's up Puppy and a truck [ Cheers and applause ] [ Dog barking ] [ Cheers and applause continue ] [ "Love Feel" plays ] Friday night, midnight, 2:00 a.m., right now Forever in September Pretty blue eyes, knees, lips, thighs Hands, bare feet and barbed wire Black truck, Pontiac, Plymouth and Cadillac Radio, telephone Telephone and radio Phone booth, top 40, jukebox, honky tonk Thunder and pouring rain, sugar in the gas tank Fire and lightning Pleased to meet you, Mary Jane Love feel Want real Love feel, yeah Thunder and pouring rain, sugar in the gas tank Fire and lightning Pleased to meet you, Mary Jane Marvin Gaye, Timberlake, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash John Prine, Waylon and Willie Ice-cold Modelo Tennessee whiskey Bourbon from Kentucky Left my heart in Vette City Black truck, Pontiac, Plymouth and Cadillac Thunder and pouring rain, sugar in the gas tank Love feel I want real Love feel, yeah Thunder and pouring rain, sugar in the gas tank Fire and lightning Pleased to meet you, Mary Jane Thunder and pouring rain, sugar in the gas tank Fire and lightning Pleased to meet you, Mary Jane [ Cheers and applause ] [ Cheers and applause continue ] [ Cheers and applause continue ] Well, coming out of a couple of really intense years for everyone, you know, and whatever your trip was during the pandemic, if you were with your partner or your kids or just solo like I was, I think I wanted to create something that had a joyful intent, in particular, naming the record, where I could have named it "A Chain of Tears," which is the last song on the record, and that would have had a different intention going out into the world.
So I think, just for me, I didn't want to get stuck in the weeds of, you know, the intensity of the moment.
You know, it's a bit of a hat on a hat.
And I think the older you get, you realize that, you know, with the good stuff, you have to take all the other stuff, as well.
And it's just the balance of the joy and the suffering and, you know, it's the thing.
I just write through all of the things, the good times and the difficult times.
You just write to all of it.
-Next, pop music that pulls at your heartstrings, from MUNA.
- I knew before it started This August would be a hard one Late summer, love sprung up between us Didn't last through the seasons I'm broken-hearted I'm disappointed It was still beautiful Took myself out to dinner and cried about you On the way home Used to wear my sadness like a choker Yeah, it had me by the throat Tonight, I feel I'm draped in it Like a loose garment I just let it flow I could come up with reasons I didn't love you well enough Shooting a second arrow Into the hole where the first was We've paid in pain Now we'll keep the change The blame is for the birds I'll break it up into pieces And feed it to them by the river Used to wear my sadness like a choker Yeah, it had me by the throat Tonight, I feel I'm draped in it Like a loose garment I just let it flow [ Cheers and applause ] Thank you so much!
[ Cheers and applause continue ] It is such an honor to be here tonight.
Thank you so much.
We're a band called MUNA, and we're gonna play -- [ Cheers and applause ] We're gonna play a bunch of songs.
[ Cheers and applause ] We're gonna play an old song but a new version of an old song that we probably played when we first played Austin.
[ Cheers and applause ] [ "Winterbreak" plays ] You say I'd best be going 'cause it's getting late So I say Why don't I walk you home 'cause it's on the way But the last time That we made love, you left in tears So this time You're wondering how to leave it here And I haven't seen you since last winter break And I know that I broke your heart But always such a smart one Always so intelligent You must know that I took it hard Oh, baby, I think we both know - We both know - This is the love that we won't get right - We won't get right - Still, if you said that you wanted - You wanted - I know I'll always have one more try - One more try You pull That face like, "Here we go again" So I pull A flask out the back of my jeans And then you take a pull And in my mind, we're in my bed And I'm pulling Your sweater up over your head And I haven't seen you since last winter break And I know that you hate how that went But always such a smart one Always so intelligent You must know what's happening Oh, baby, I think we both know This is the love that we won't get right - We won't get right - Still, if you said that you wanted - You wanted - I know I'll always have one more try - One more try - Oh, baby, I think we both know - We both know - This is the love that we won't get right - We won't get right - Still, if you said that you wanted - You wanted - I know I'll always have one more try Oh, it's magnetic, isn't it?
The sense of something underneath the surface When you are laying on thin ice Just a little bit masochistic A tentative ellipses The parting of your lips and the ache in your eyes But I think I'm gonna kiss you All despite What we both know - What we both know - This is the love that we won't get right - We won't get right - Still, if you said that you wanted - You wanted - I know I'll always have one more try - Have one more try - Oh, baby, I think we both know - We both know - This is the love that we won't get right - We won't get right - Still, if you said that you wanted - You wanted - I know I'll always have one more try - Have one more try Yeah, yeah, yo - Yeah, yo, yo - Yeah, yeah, yo - Yeah, yeah, yo - Yeah, yo, yo - Yeah, yo, yo - Yeah, yo, yo - Yeah, yo, yo - Yeah, yo, yo [ Cheers and applause ] Thank you, babies.
Um...
The next couple that we're gonna play are probably our best tries so far at country tunes.
So you can let us know how we do.
But, um, I wrote this next song, um... coming from a place of -- It's -- I meant it to be a happy song, but it's probably the song that we cry the most playing.
-So happy, it's sad.
-[ Chuckles ] And it's kind of just about being brave enough to say that you want to change and you want to find a version of yourself that feels more authentic and just feels better for you.
So we want to dedicate the performance of this song tonight to any of the queer and trans fans that we have that are watching.
[ Cheers and applause ] We love you so much.
This one is called "Kind of Girl."
I'm the kind of girl Who takes things a little too far Presses a little too hard That's why you left a mark And I'm the kind of girl Who wants everything she can't get Leaving alone and yet Somehow still leaving a mess But I'm a girl who's learning Everything I say isn't Definitive I'm not some kind of minor trope Who's never gonna change That's so Derivative I could get up tomorrow Talk to myself real gentle Work in the garden Go out and meet somebody Who actually likes me for me And this time, I'll let them Yeah, I like telling stories But I don't have to write them in ink I could still change the end At least I'm the kind of girl I'm the kind of girl who thinks I can The kind of girl who thinks I can Yeehaw!
[ Cheers and applause ] I'm the kind of girl Who's likely to drive you insane Restless, forever untamed A little in love with the pain But I'm the kind of girl Who owns up to all of my faults Who's learning to laugh at 'em all Like I'm not a problem to solve I'm a girl who's blowing on a dandelion Thinking how the winds could change at any given time I could get up tomorrow Talk to myself real gentle Work in the garden Go out and meet somebody Who actually likes me for me And this time, I'll let them Ooh-ooh, yeah Yeah, I like telling stories But I don't have to write them in ink I could still change the end At least I'm the kind of girl I'm the kind of girl who thinks I can The kind of girl who thinks I can Ooh, ooh, ooh ooh ooh Ooh, ooh Ooh, ooh ooh ooh, ooh, ooh ooh ooh, ooh [ Cheers and applause ] -Thank you, guys.
Thank you for singing that with us.
[ Cheers and applause ] This is about, um, wanting somebody who's unavailable.
[ "Taken" plays ] Pulled up, quarter to eleven Waited a minute till you went in We talked, and then we stopped talking Put on a song, and we listened I know that I make you nervous I do it half on purpose You know I think you're precious Yeah, I think you're a good person So why do I Want to blow up your life?
I'll be a very good girl I won't even think about it I'm just feeling like I can't help it I know you say you had a girlfriend I just want it if it's taken Ooh ooh, ooh ooh ooh Dad left when I was eleven Mom said it was 'cause he couldn't Keep from touching other women Some things have a way of sticking And now I'm standing in your kitchen You say you told her you were leaving And I can't help thinking I hate you 'cause you're just like him So why did I Have to blow up your life?
I'll be a very good girl I won't even think about it I'm just feeling like I can't help it I know you say you had a girlfriend I just want it I just thought that If I could take it from her Maybe then it would prove that I'm worth something Now I'm alone and I'm hurt Wishing I'd taken you at your word When you said that you were taken I'll be a very good girl I won't even think about it I'm just feeling like I can't help it I know you say you had a girlfriend I just want it if it's taken I know you said I just want it [ Cheers and applause ] So, yeah, we've put out -- we've put out three records as a band, which is just such a blessing.
And this most recent record is actually the one that is self-titled for us.
And I think that has a lot to do with feeling like we're finally in a place where we understand ourselves.
And there's a lot on this record about the freedom of agency and just doing what you want with your life.
And this next song is a breakup song that's kind of about that.
And it's also a little bit about horses.
[ Laughs ] [ Cheers and applause ] [ "Anything but Me" plays ] You're gonna say that I'm on a high horse I think that my horse is regular-sized Did you ever think maybe You're on a pony Going in circles on a carousel ride?
You're gonna say I asked for the moon I think that it's you with your head in the sky All that I wanted was somebody honest Living for more than their next good time You say that you wanna change Well, I hope you get everything you want Everything you want You say that you need relief Well, I hope you get everything you need Everything but me 'Cause I don't wanna stick around trying to work it out When everything feels wrong Everything feels wrong But it's all love and it's no regrets You can call me if there's anything you need Anything, anything but Me Me, yeah Me Me, yeah Me Me, yeah Anything you need Anything but me Go ahead and hate me as long as you need to Go ahead and break me a piece of your mind Say I always had one foot out Well, baby, I got two now Good thing I've never been afraid of goodbye You say that you wanna change Well, I hope you get everything you want Everything you want You say that you need relief Well, I hope you get everything you need Everything but me 'Cause I don't wanna stick around trying to work it out When everything feels wrong Everything feels wrong But it's all love and it's no regrets You can call me if there's anything you need Anything, anything but Me Me, yeah Me Me, yeah Me Me, yeah Anything you need Anything but me And, sure, it's not all so black and white Sure, I'm gonna cry For the love we couldn't keep But I would rather lose you Than who I'm meant to be So you can have anything but Me Yeah, yeah You can have anything but Me Yeah, yeah You can have anything but Me Yeah, yeah You can have anything but Me Yeah, yeah Anything you need Anything, anything but [ Cheers and applause ] Thank you so much!
[ Cheers and applause continue ] This is a breakup song.
It's called "Home By Now."
[ Cheers and applause ] Heard that you were selling your piano and your car It feels so weird to not reach out and ask you how you are Wonder if you're moving or if money's just that tight These are the kinds of questions To which I've resigned my rights Ever since I decided There were things That I needed That you Couldn't give To me But I'm still wondering Would we have turned a corner if I had waited?
Do I need to lower my expectations?
If we'd kept heading the same direction Would we be home by now?
I don't know if I'd been okay with Holding out hope for your stack of rainchecks If I had been able to grin and bear it Would we be home by now?
By now Home by now - Home by now Home by now Have you ever heard about how when a person's in a maze They will tend to walk in circles Thinking they are going straight They can't see the bigger picture So they get stuck in a loop In the end I was afraid that that's what you and I would do But I still Have my moments Where every reason Feels A lot like An excuse I wanna ask you Would we have turned a corner if I had waited?
Do I need to lower my expectations?
If we'd kept heading the same direction Would we be home by now?
I don't know if I'd been okay with Holding out hope for your stack of rainchecks If I had been able to grin and bear it Would we be home by now?
What is love supposed to feel like anyway?
Why is it so hot in L.A. In late October?
Sing it!
Said I don't know if it's enough to make it last And you said if I even had to ask And you had Your answer But I still wonder Would we have turned a corner if I had waited?
- If I had waited - Do I need to lower my expectations?
If we'd kept heading the same direction Would we be home by now?
I don't know if I'd been okay with Holding out hope for your stack of rainchecks If I had been able to grin and bear it Would we be home by now?
By now Home by now [ Cheers and applause ] Whoo!
Thank you so much!
[ Cheers and applause ] [ Cheers and applause continue ] [ Cheers and applause continue ] - Ooh, ooh, ooh Ooh ooh, ooh ooh ooh Follow your joy'all - Joy'all - I'm not a toy, y'all I got heart Follow your joy'all - Joy'all - I'm not a boy, y'all The burden of proof Isn't on you, ooh, ooh Ooh ooh Ooh ooh, ooh ooh ooh Ooh ooh, ooh ooh You ooh, ooh ooh Ooh ooh Ooh ooh, ooh ooh ooh Ooh ooh, ooh [ Cheers and applause ]
