Steven Potter:
The push for data centers seems very urgent. Why are they so needed right now?
Tricia Braun:
Technology is a race. I think, bottom line, the more that we can be doing within these, especially in the AI and the storage, it's critical to being able to kind of move into the what's next. And it's not just a race between companies, it's a race against other countries. It's a, sometimes, a national security issue. It could be all of the above.
Steven Potter:
Are we just catching up here in Wisconsin with building data centers? Do other states already have them up and running?
Tricia Braun:
We're definitely not first in the mix. If you look at like Virginia, Georgia, Texas, Ohio, Indiana — they're definitely ahead of us in terms of data centers and especially at the hyperscale level. I think the demand is still there in other states, just looking at where the opportunities are flowing and where their clients want to be. There's also a synergy around the innovation and technology that's happening with Microsoft announcing the supercomputer that's going to be built in Mount Pleasant, to Vantage and Oracle AI. You know, those decisions are not just based on location, it's also based on the environment that's around it — from a human capital, from a research and development, all of those different factors — which speak volumes to why Wisconsin, but it's also why you're seeing a lot of other interests from other data center owners and operators.
