Steven Potter:
Screening kids for lead poisoning, how is that going? What do you see happening in the fall with that?
Brenda Cassellius:
Well, you know, to be fully transparent, I wish we could screen more of our students. We've had a lot of opportunities for parents to come out and screen our student, screen their children, but parents aren't always taking us up on those screenings. So, we've had a number of students screened, and the good news is, is we haven't seen additional screenings that have happened leading to additional cases for the city that is directly related to the schools. We're really glad about that finding. But we would like to see more of our parents taking advantage of those screenings and getting more students screened for lead.
Steven Potter:
And they'll be able to do that through their primary care physician or through the city?
Brenda Cassellius:
Or through the city. Through the city is offering it — Children's has been working with us, been a great partner.
Steven Potter:
Children's Hospital.
Brenda Cassellius:
That's right. We're working with another nonprofit group that works out to get the word out to parents, to make sure that parents know when these screenings are happening. We have it on our website, we send letters home — we just want to make sure that there is a test, and you can get your students tested if you would like to do that.
Steven Potter:
How is that one student, that first student that tested positive for lead poisoning?
Brenda Cassellius:
I think that they're doing fine. Yeah. You know, obviously, nobody wants any child to have lead poisoning, and so we've put in place a procedure so that we can ensure that that child is not full exposed in the future.
