[ Cheers and applause ] Hey [ Finale plays ] [ Cheers and applause ] [ Song ends ] [ Cheers and applause ] Thank you very much.
You know, we had a lot of success with the "While I'm Livin'" album a couple years ago.
A girl named Brandi Carlisle.
[ Chuckles ] [ Cheers and applause ] And Shooter Jennings.
Alright.
Oh.
This was the title track of the "While I'm Livin'" album.
Actually, Brandi came up with the title.
But this is a song that I had had in my back pocket I don't know how many years.
Probably 30, 40 years.
[ Cheers and applause ] First time we'd worked together.
So when I first met her, I mean, it was like everything went away and we became instant friends.
But she said, "Hey, T." She said, "The band's on break.
Let's finish that idea you had."
And I'm like, "Hmm?
I gotta think about this kind of stuff."
You know, I don't just write just on call, you know?
[ Laughter ] Heh.
And so I said, "I'll be right back."
So I went to the bathroom.
[ Laughter ] That's where I do most of my good thinkin'.
I came back, and she was in the piano room.
And she started the first line.
And from there, we finished the song, and it was like, oh, such a weight off my shoulders because I knew -- I just felt like it would be great, a great song.
Bring my flowers now While I'm livin' I won't need your love when I'm gone Don't spend time, tears, or money On my old, breathless body If your heart is in them flowers Bring 'em on [ Cheers and applause ] All the miles Cast a long shadow I'd take a couple back if I could I'd have learned to play guitar And told my daddy more I loved him But I believe, for the most part, I done good There's always sunrise And rainbows and babies And the little things I cherish on my way And even though one day They'll bury me and Jesse Ray I just know We're gonna ride again someday - Bring my flowers now While I'm livin' I won't need your love when I'm gone - Don't spend time, tears, or money On my old, breathless body If your heart is in them flowers Bring 'em on [ Cheers and applause ] The days are long But the years are lightning They're bright, and they will never strike again I wish I'd been a better friend A better daughter to my mother But there's no goin' back When your back's against the wind So if you've got love Then you're sittin' on a gold mine And you can't take it with you when you go So don't wait to help your sister Forgive your brother and your neighbor, yeah 'Cause we all think we've got the time Until we don't - Bring my flowers now while I'm livin' I won't need your love when I'm gone - Don't you spend time, tears, or money On my old, breathless body If your heart is in them flowers Bring 'em on If your heart is in them flowers Bring 'em on [ Cheers and applause ] [ "Kindness" plays ] I have traveled down the long and twisted roads Through the darkened streets not many souls have known I've seen beauty some may not understand I've found glory in the ruin of the best-laid plans There's times tomorrow felt so far away It seemed as though the bitterness was here to stay And though I've pushed down on my anger through my tears I have always felt the love of God so near And I've been everything there is to be So come on, baby, show some kindness to me How the hand of fate drags us all behind Like a river flowin' back and forth in time To the place we call free will and we were always meant to be It was written like a song so long ago It's a long and lonely river to the sea So come on, baby, show some kindness to me When all the wasted years have come and gone And there's just an empty sky to look upon All the dreams that pulled our hearts are memories I will remember what it felt like to be free 'Cause I've been everything there is to be So come on, baby, show some kindness to me - Kindness - Come on, baby, show some kindness to me Come on, baby Show some kindness to me Show someone some kindness.
[ Cheers and applause ] Heh.
Brandi sends me a song on my phone.
Which she -- You know, she does a lot.
That's -- That's what she does.
[ Laughter ] So, she said, "If you like this song, we'll start with it tomorrow."
And so I listened to it and I liked it.
So -- But I wanted my boyfriend's opinion.
"Boyfriend."
At 64.
Yeah.
[ Cheers and applause ] I've never been married, but I've been divorced quite a bit.
[ Laughter ] [ Cheers and applause ] I'm tellin' ya.
Mm-hmm.
It still costs, you know?
[ Laughter ] Anyway, so, I wanted my boyfriend's opinion.
His name is Craig.
Craig Dillingham.
And so I said, "Craig, get in here!"
It was a big room.
And, so, he came, and I said, "You know, listen to this song.
If you like it, Brandi says we'll start with it tomorrow."
So he went in the other room.
About 30 seconds, he was back, and he said, "Hell, I wrote the son of a bitch!"
[ Laughter ] What are the chances?
God almighty.
Hm.
Well, anyway, I figured this is gonna be some good mojo here.
So, yeah, he wrote it like 20 years ago.
[ "When The Rodeo Is Over (Where Does The Cowboy Go?)"
plays ] He got down out of the cattle truck In the Amarillo night He looked up at the Texas sky And thought of his last ride He'd trade all his tomorrows For eight seconds one more time He could have made world-champion cowboy Back in 1969 He thanked the driver for the ride And he closed the semi door And limped across the parking lot To another liquor store He held on to the bottle As he counted out his change And he felt like some old saddled rock Been turned out on the range - When the rodeo is over Where does the cowboy go?
I never thought it'd be his last ride Till the last time he got thrown When your heart can't take the losing And your knees can't take the blows When the rodeo is over - Where do the cowboys go?
Where does the cowboy go?
This is my baby.
Craig Dillingham.
[ Cheers and applause ] With whiskey on his breath And the age in his eyes He'll hitch a ride on the Interstate And fade into the sunrise Now, Sedona, she's a vortex But she's sweeter than the coast He smokes cigarettes he can't afford And whistles to the ghost His boots belong to memories And his spurs belong to rust And he'll be picking up his turquoise And leave the buckles in the dust - When the rodeo is over Where does the cowboy go?
He never thought it'd be his last ride Till the last time he got thrown When your heart can't take the losing And your knees can't take the blows When the rodeo is over - Where do the cowboys go?
When the rodeo is over Where does the cowboy Go?
[ Cheers and applause ] So, some of the greatest have graced this stage, and we really felt honored to be here tonight.
[ Cheers and applause ] Alright, boys!
Let's do it!
[ "It's a Little Too Late" plays ] Well, I was up all night, wonderin' what to do Thinkin' that I oughta just forget about you But it's a little too late Well, it's a little too late When you walked in, I shoulda walked out But it's a little too late to do the right thing now Hey Well, the whole town told me you're a heartbreak king Guess I oughta pay attention when they say those things But it's a little too late Well, it's a little too late I know all my old buddies wanna help me out But it's a little too late to do the right thing now Turn the jukebox up, throw some sawdust down I'm too far gone to turn this heart around I may be wrong, but I don't want out Well, it's a little too late to do the right thing now Here he comes again!
Hey!
Turn the jukebox up, throw some sawdust down I'm too far gone to turn this heart around I may be wrong, but I don't want out Well, it's a little too late to do the right thing now Unh [ Cheers and applause ] It's never too late to do the right thing.
I'm a good example of that.
[ Laughter ] Whoo!
It's not a matter of being right.
It's a matter of being old.
[ Laughter ] Uh-huh-huh I mean, I remember when I could put both feet... [ Cheers and applause ] It worked great in bars.
Let me tell ya.
I can't -- can't even get it up there now.
[ Laughter ] Uh-huh, yeah [ Laughs ] Might break something.
Hm!
I'll tell ya.
I was up all night wonderin' what to do Thinkin' that I oughta just forget about you But it's a little too late Well, it's a little too late When you walked in, I shoulda walked out But it's a little too late to do the right thing now I may be wrong, but I don't want out Well, it's a little too late to do the right thing now Hey [ Finale plays ] [ Cheers and applause ] [ Song ends ] Hey!
[ Cheers and applause ] [ Laughs ] Here we go!
When I die, I may not go to heaven And I don't know if they let cowboys in If they don't, just let me go to Texas 'Cause Texas is as close as I've been New York couldn't hold my attention And Detroit City couldn't sing my song If tomorrow finds me busted flat in Dallas Well, I won't care, 'cause at least I'll know I'm home When I die, I may not go to heaven And I don't know if they let cowboys in If they don't, just let me go to Texas [ Cheers and applause ] 'Cause Texas is as close as I've been Here comes Sam on the Livid guitar!

[ Cheers and applause ] And the little gal singing background vocals is my oldest daughter, Presley.

I'd ride through all of hell and half of Texas Just to hear Willie Nelson sing a country song [ Cheers and applause ] Well, the beer just ain't as cold in old Milwaukee My body's here, and my soul's in Austin [ Cheers and applause ] When I die, I may not go to heaven And I don't know if they let cowboys in If they don't, just let me go to Texas, boys 'Cause Texas is as close as I've been Help us out.
When I die, I may not go to heaven And I don't know if they let cowboys in If they don't, just let me go to Texas, y'all Texas is as close as I've been When I die, well, I may not go to heaven And I don't know if they let my cowboys in If they don't, just let me go to Texas Texas is as close as I've been Well!
Austin, Texas, is as close as we've been [ Cheers and applause ] [ Finale plays ] [ Cheers and applause ] [ Song ends ] [ Cheers and applause ] Yeah, Texas!
Whoo!

[ Cheers and applause ] -Next, the free-spirited country music of Brittney Spencer.
- I come from a place so small on the map They had to draw an arrow to show you where it's at We say what we mean with no in-betweens Backroads, cycles You don't notice till you leave We didn't have a lot, so we always wanted more I had to leave to get perspective Just to make me sure I wanna make 'em proud, hope they can hear me now Breaking ceilings down in Tennessee, I'm still me I'm bruised and I'm broken But my heart is open Let's go deeper Got love like a river Faith like a sinner Let's go deeper I wish I trusted my emotions I'm humble 'cause I'm scared of hoping For something that I can't control Baby, I'm bruised and I'm broken But my heart is open Let's go deeper [ Cheers and applause ] I'm tryin' to spill my heart, so tell me what you think Your silence speaks so loud, it's cruel and deafening I wish that I was simple, I got way too many rules 'Cause now I'm hella careful, I just wanna fall for you Make it easy to hurt me, yeah, yeah 'Cause I told you all of my history Baby, I'm bruised and I'm broken But my heart is open Let's go deeper I lie when I'm hurting But that's just the surface Let's go deeper I wish I trusted my emotions I'm humble 'cause I'm scared of hoping For something that I can't control I'm bruised and I'm broken But if you're still open Let's go deeper Baby, you make it easy to hurt me So damn easy It's so damn easy Baby, I'm bruised and I'm broken But my heart is open Let's go deeper Got love like a river Faith like a sinner Let's go deeper I wish I trusted my emotions I'm humble 'cause I'm scared of hoping For something that I can't control I'm bruised and I'm broken But if you're still open Let's go deeper Ooh, ahh, ooh Let's go deeper [ Vocalizing ] Let's go deeper Yeah [ Vocalizing ] Let's go deeper - Baby, let's go, baby, let's go - Ooh, let's go, let's go [ Vocalizing ] [ Cheers and applause ] [ Scatting ] [ Cheers and applause ] Oh, my goodness.
Y'all are beautiful.
It's a song that I wrote because I have a lot of musical heroes and I wanted to talk about them and how they make me love music and want to do music.
And, you know, they gave us songs that we can kind of put to memories in our heads and be like, "Oh, yeah, this is the song that was playing when I kissed that person, and I forgot who that person was, but I remember that song.
[ Cheers and applause ] I remember it.
It was so -- I remember that song.
It's like it happened yesterday."
But I wanted to write a song about that, and I did with my friends Tofer Brown and Jennifer Wayne.
And my only regret about this song is that it wasn't 20,000 minutes long so I could list everybody.
I mention a few people.
And I don't know.
If you hear somebody you love, just like I love, you just shout 'em out or -- I don't know -- wave.
I don't know.
They might see.
I have no idea if Reba's watching this.
But if she was, I would -- Actually it's best I don't think she's watching.
I would be even more nervous.
[ Laughs ] But this is "Bigger Than the Song."
It's your very first kiss in the driveway It's the party that you almost missed It's the mixtape when your poor young heart breaks It's the memory you can't forget Playing in the background Takes you to the front row Says it better than you'd say yourself The high and low feelings Everything between 'em Everything you've ever felt Makes you wanna be fancy like Reba A queen like Aretha In love like Johnny and June Get mad like Alanis Scream like Janet Do it all like Dolly would do Yeah, it's more than a three-minute listen When the radio's on It's bigger than the song Oh, ooh, oh-oh Yeah Been your favorite ever since that first dance Now you hate it as he drives away You play another one to numb the heartache And get you to a better place That makes you wanna be fancy like Reba A queen like Latifah In love like Johnny and June Get mad like Alanis Scream like Janet Do it all like Dolly would do Yeah, it's more than a three-minute listen When the radio's on It's bigger than the song Oh, ohh, hey It's bigger than the song Ohhhhh The song when the lights go down low It's dancin' on the kitchen floor Every time it comes around, yeah, you should know You're gonna want a little bit more Put your love on top like Beyonc At my church on Sunday When Maren starts singin' that tune Oops, you did it again like Britney With a voice like Whitney Singin', I will always love you Yeah, it's more than a three-minute listen When the radio's on It's bigger than the song Ohh-ooh, whoa, oh It's your life playin' on On, ohh-ooh Play on, play on [ Cheers and applause ] Thank you We've got my friends Bobby and Matt here.
And they've got a little treat for us.
So take it away, boys.
[ Cheers and applause ] I've never been a morning kind of person, per se But it's never hard to open my eyes To you every day You've never been a night owl Who likes staying up late But, baby, you are And, baby, you do 'Cause you meet me halfway This ain't my first rodeo I've been down this road before Nobody loves me like you You're my future, past, present tense I'd go to hell and back again If that's what you want me to do Nobody but you, ooh-ooh You, ooh-ooh You, ooh-ooh-ooh Nobody but you Oh, you You're a master of patience The way I make you wait, boy You're on the ground Holding me down When I'm floating in space I took a few wrong turns I've loved and I've been burned, yeah People wait forever to find this Ain't my first rodeo I've been down this road before Nobody loves me like you You're my future, past, present tense I'd go to hell and back again If that's what you want me to do Nobody but you No, you, ooh-ooh Nobody but you, ooh, ooh No, you, oh, you, ooh No, no, no, no [ Vocalizing ] I gotta tell you the truth See, I, I love ya and I need you - It's always been you - It's always - Been you Ohh, ahh, boy - It's always been you - Nobody - Nobody - Nobody - Nobody but you - Whoa, oh - It's always been you So don't you leave me, no, darling - It's always been you - Oh, stay, stay - It's always been you - Stay - Nobody - Stay, yeah - Nobody but you - It's always been you It's always been you, ooh It's always been you, oh Nobody Nobody but [ Cheers and applause ] [ Cheers and applause ] Y-o-o-o-o-ou [ Finale plays ] [ Cheers and applause ] [ Song ends ] [ Cheers and applause ] I moved to Nashville 10 years ago from Baltimore City.
I was one of those kids -- I see a lot of kids here, so I just wanted to say this.
Also, you've been so wonderful to watch.
Hi.
I don't even know your name.
What's your name?
-[ Speaking indistinctly ] -I'm acting like I can hear you.
What -- -I'm June.
-June.
June, you are wonderful.
You are precious.
I remember being your age and I remember thinking I couldn't do any of this stuff.
I remember thinking -- And then I fell in love with country music when I was a teenager, and I was like, "There's no way in hell I can do this."
'Cause I didn't see nobody that looked like me.
And I was like, "Man..." [ Cheers and applause ] So I grew up for a long time thinking I couldn't do any of this stuff, in great part 'cause I just never saw anybody like me doing it.
And I have my own self-esteem and self-worth things that I've been working through my whole life.
So I can't blame it all on the demographics of this industry that I've chosen to pursue with all my heart.
Because I really love country music so, so much.
I really do.
[ Cheers and applause ] Y'all wanna party with us for a little bit?
[ Cheers and applause ] This is also a new song on the album, and a lot of these songs, I haven't played out for people, but this is the one where I'm really nervous about, so if you can stand up like these wonderful folks here.
Or if you wanna -- I don't know.
You can do whatever you want.
But y'all just gotta dance with us.
Is that alright?
Okay.
Y'all actually listened to me.
Oh, gosh.
People don't usually do that.
[ Chuckles ] Y'all ready, band?
Ahh If you know the person next to you or if you don't... just say, "Hi.
We're gonna dance together."
This corner town has got me down And I ain't blowing smoke I need a breeze and a little green That kudzu open road I've been working all day Waiting all week for Friday Honeybee fly next to me And keep me buzzing on You touch my knee, and honestly I'm barely hanging on 'Cause I been working all day Waiting all week for Friday Something about this here feels right I wanna play outside You better fill up that gas, boy I don't wanna take it slow I'm cinnamon on your dashboard Sugar me, sweet and low Gonna one-two step on yesterday Rainbow down the Interstate No rain's coming up our way You wanna drive, I wanna ride It's summertime I got time today I got time Ah, ah, ah, ah, ay I got time Ah, ah, ah, ah, ay I got time I see y'all.
