There’s nothing quite like a good mystery… Is what I would be saying if there wasn’t a mystery around every corner. You’ve got to hand it to the writers working on all of these shows though; they keep coming up with new ideas.

In a world populated by dozens of versions of C.S.I., Law and Order, Sherlock, NCIS and a handful of others, the endings are (usually) kept original enough that you can only predict the ending about 75% of the time. Sure that number may seem high, but just consider the number of shows and movies you’ve seen where you could accurately predict the major events and conclusion only ten minutes into watching.

That being said, how many people actually care? There has to be a reason crime dramas and mysteries are renewed year after year. Maybe by swapping out the quest star, changing a few names and wrapping it all in a new setting, no one even notices it’s the same story they’ve seen a dozen times before.

Fingers crossed that Masterpiece will keep surprising us with something new.
