Watch Nature “The Cheetah Orphans” at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 24 on Wisconsin Public Television.
Perhaps when you were a child you found an abandoned baby bird or even a stray dog and acted as their caretaker. But would you take in a couple of cheetah cubs? That’s exactly what veteran wildlife filmmaker Simon King does in The Cheetah Orphans. After their cheetah mother is killed by a lion, Simon assumes the parenting responsibilities for the cubs, Toki and Sambu – a life changing experience that Simon describes as “privileged, humbling and enriching.”
Be sure to watch the preview below, or check it out at WPT’s online schedule where you can also link to a playful game in which you help the cubs survive.
Note: This film first aired in 2007, and the Nature website has a couple of updates on the Cheetah cubs.
