Kind Hearted Woman can be seen on Wisconsin Public Television at 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, April 1 and 2.
David Sutherland has never shied away from tackling tough subjects in his films, and the results of spending years covering his subjects has resulted in some of the most important documentaries ever to air on public television – including The Farmer’s Wife and Country Boys.
Beginning tonight at 8, he returns with what might be his most powerful work yet – Kind Hearted Woman. In the two-part film, Sutherland introduces us to Robin Charboneau a 32-year-old divorced single mother and Oglala Sioux woman living on North Dakota’s Spirit Lake Reservation. Spending three years with her, we get to understand the struggles she faces as she tries to keep her family together in the face of physical and sexual abuse.
Watch the trailer for the film below and then tune in tonight and tomorrow at 8 on Wisconsin Public Television to watch the full two-part film.
