Digging into the past

Watch History Detectives at 7 p.m. Tuesdays on Wisconsin Public Television.

Each week History Detectives gives us an opportunity to dig deep into our past and uncover some unexpected tales that can often alter our perspective on the way things were. This week, the detectives take us to Hawaii to investigate some interesting markings on parts that are purported to have come from a downed Japanese fighter plane during World War II. It is the show’s first investigation in Hawaii.

But, the on-air component is just part of the fun. Visit the History Detectives website to discover added content from the program’s rich archive of inverstigations, learn some detective techniques that can help you uncover your past and submit a story that you’d like to see on a future episode of the show.

Watch one of my favorite History Detectives segments below. In it, the detectives explore the history of a guitar that could have been owned by legendary African American folksinger Josh White.
