A Mysterious Relic

Watch NOVA “Secrets of Stonehenge” at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12 on Wisconsin Public Television.

Everyone loves an old wives’ tale, if only to feed our need for curiosity. Unfortunately, Big Foot and the Loch Ness Monster only have a few blurry pictures as evidence of their existence… Stonehenge and the Moai statues on Easter Island are actually there in plain view for the world to see.

What could be more intriguing than discovering the meaning and purpose behind a monument built ages ago by who knows who? Thanks to advancements in science and technology, mankind has managed to solve most of mysteries of the past, but it’s always exciting to explore the ones that remain.

I think the best part of these great mysteries is the opportunity to hear all of the different theories that have developed over the years. With no final answer, people are free to wonder and imagine any possibility that comes to mind. I mean really, who doesn’t enjoy the thought of aliens visiting earth long ago to help early humans build a bunch of random monuments?

Pete Schwaba is a stand-up comedian, writer, director and host of "Director's Cut" on PBS Wisconsin. His writing and directing credits include “A Guy Thing” and “The Godfather of Green Bay.” Pete’s TV writing credits include “Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader?” as Jeff Foxworthy’s writer/producer and the sports comedy show “Sports Soup.” Pete is married with two children and splits time between Los Angeles and the Midwest.

I’m a project manager at PBS Wisconsin, and formerly an associate editor at WisContext. When I’m not scouring the state for fun music and arts content, I’m usually being forced to go on a hike by my demanding border collie or being forced to read on the couch by my demanding cats.

I'm the online content editor at PBS Wisconsin. I make our digital shenanigans compelling, friendly, and interactive so viewers can access great PBS programming over the air, on the web, on a boat, in a moat, in a box, with a fox. . . you catch my drift.
