Kristin Bowns:
The students don't respond well to stuffy suits and offices, right? That's not how we feel comfortable, especially in our home. That's not how we're our best selves. So staff take a lot of care to make sure that we are approachable and available and around, and not just someone that's going to lecture them about what they need to do in class that day, or what they need to do for work or an internship. We're also there to celebrate with them, to help them problem solve, to laugh, and to have fun. And creating that dynamic makes it a really magical special place.
Murv Seymour:
Yeah. And what can you say to the general population out there that may come into contact with some of your students in terms of how they can support them and how they can help them feel more comfortable as they navigate college life and adulthood?
Kristin Bowns:
Sure. I think not making assumptions about what others need is really important. Not just in education, but everyone knows what they need best, and being patient and how people communicate that and express that, and just not making assumptions is really powerful instead of just jumping in to help, asking, "Would you like help? Is there any support I can give you?" Because everyone processes things in their own time.
