Vince Lombardi's Era of Championships
I thought I'd give you a little tour of the Lombardi era. It begins over here when Vince Lombardi takes the reins in 1959. The Packers were coming off one of their worst seasons in their franchise history. They had only won one game and he immediately turned the team around and he won "Coach of the Year" that year, as we have a big newspaper headline. We have a program from the 1960 championship game, just two years into his reign. He already had the Packers playing for a title. The Packers won their first championship in 1961. We have a couple newspaper headlines from this. The Packers repeated in 1962 and won their second NFL championship. They played the New York Giants again, but this time in New York. It was a hard fought game. Some people actually think that the 1962 season might have been his best team. Continuing along, we head to the 1965 NFL championship, which was the Packers third title under Lombardi. The next year, the Packers would repeat again, winning the 1966 NFL championship.
