The Return of Elk

01/04/18 | 9m 25s | Rating: NR

In 1995, elk were reintroduced to the state. Twenty-five elk were brought from Michigan to the Chequamegon National Forest near Clam Lake. In 2000, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources took over management of the herd, which has grown to about 120 animals. The DNR monitors the health of the herd and explores other aspects of the future of elk in the state.
