Third Eye Blind - Live at Red Rocks
(static rustling) - Rock musicians tend to be, you know, weirdos um, because they didn't feel like they fit in with what was going on.
That's how we came together.
There was a music scene going on in Sac-- San Francisco and we didn't join it.
We didn't get into it because we wanted to fit into it.
We did it because we felt like we didn't fit in.
(street noise) (indistinct talking) (street noise) (indistinct talking) - I'm not satisfied.
- [Cameraman] No, just smile.
Oh!
(indistinct screaming) (indistinct talking) - Oh!
(street noise) Okay, that was... (traffic humming) (bass guitar strumming) - Brad, you all good?
Okay.
(bass guitar strumming) - [Stephan] One more time.
One... (bass guitar music) Um, can you guys back up a little bit?
(dramatic synth music) (drums beating) (rock music) - [Stephan] Playing Red Rocks is in the first week of the tour.
I don't know how we're gonna do it.
That's not when you want when you wanna make a concert film.
You want to do it in the middle of the tour, not the beginning.
It's gonna be that moment on stage where you're looking at each other, making sure we agree about where we're gonna go, or, uh, agree that we're gonna find out.
We don't have time to play all of them.
We can kind of mash 'em, you know?
(note cards rustling) We're an indie rock band and we have been disguised by some hits, which I'm happy to have, but I'm not happy to be defined by them.
- [Brad] This is the first time I've really been able to look at the body of work collectively, and it was the first time I was able to sort of step back and not be so judgmental and just sort of enjoy what has been made.
- [Stephan] So, this tour is really about trying to give some total sense, which we're gonna fail at, but we're gonna try.
(light music) (mysterious suspenseful building rock riff) (riff continues) (music builds) - Look away.
- There you go!
(Stephan trilling) - [Stephan] I think that you can't help but set yourself up in your mind when you have a show like the 25th anniversary of your band at Red Rocks to make it so that in your mind it's gonna be perfect.
(soft rock music) (driving guitar music) But it never works that way.
I was really concerned that we weren't gonna have a show at all.
When I get a migraine.
I lose my English.
I can't...
I don't remember the words.
(Stephan groaning) (Stephan panting) That's the first time I've thrown up before a show since we've been a band.
In 25 years of doing this, we've never had a lighting guy quit on the day, but he did.
So the fill-in guy had this incredible task.
(distant piano music) (drumsticks thudding) (vocal warm-up sounds) (soft piano music continues) - [Stephan] And then, I lost my voice.
(vocal warmups continue) (audience applauding) (audience cheering) The thing that I love about this band is we can trust each other, we can love each other, and we can trust that we're gonna go out there and stomp.
We fight for each other's space.
That's what makes Third Eye Blind magic.
(light music) (audience cheering) (synthesizer music builds) (light music continues) (cheering continues) (music builds) (cheering continues) (light music continues) (cheering continues) (low bass hum) (synth music builds) (cheering continues) (light music continues) (cheering continues) (cymbal flourish sound) (drum rolls) (cheering continues) (drum intro music) (cheering continues) (rock guitar music) (drum roll) The clothes she wears mis-fit And she's nervous when she speaks Her zombie mom and dad Live in a separate house of freaks I woke you up I slit the throat of your confidence music continues) Oh, yeah (electric guitar solo) (rock music continues) I'm the one for you 'Cause I know all the dirty things you like to do I'm the fear in your eyes I'm the fire in your flies I'm (electric guitar solo) (rock music continues) (rock music continues) (audience applauding) (audience cheering) (rock music) (rock bass line music) (acoustic guitar strumming music) (rock music continues) Pictures came back from Mars, a new golden age we're told Mars had rivers, lakes, and seas But life never seem to take hold And in the emptiness my mind goes back to you (acoustic guitar strumming) (rock music continues) (electric rhythm guitar solo) We live beneath, we live above and we live below All of us next to each other, but so utterly alone And we were in this all together, now we're on our own (electric rhythm guitar solo) (driving drumbeat) And you learn tenderness is essential And you learn the only thing I know Is how we hold each other right now (rock music continues) (electric guitar solo) (rock music continues) Make a deal with someone new, but it's too scary to ignore It won't dent my isolation And we change what we're looking for Still, we've learned what's worth our time And what's a bore And you learn tenderness is essential And you learn the only thing I know Is how we hold each other right now (building rock guitar music) (rock music continues) (wah-wah pedal electric guitar solo) (rock music continues) (audience applauding) (audience cheering) Like a dust storm We got caught I came out with the balance of an astronaut Meet me by the garden by the road And we'll drive up the coast I've been sleepwalking all year But I didn't give up this ghost And it all seems like we've been so alone (bass guitar trill) And the veil lifts up, death we lived in No more proxies and no more stand-ins, skies open up The only thing I know is how we hold each other right now (building rock guitar music) The only thing I know is how we hold each other right now (building rock guitar music) (rock music continues) (building rock guitar music) Anything (building rock guitar music) Anything (building rock guitar music) I'd give you anything (building rock guitar music) Jackie O with the top down open All the words to what's unspoken I'll put together what's been broken Just to see you, yeah, yeah Anything ooh, ooh I'll give you anything ooh I'll give you anything Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah (rock music continues) ooh (building rock guitar music) (electric guitar music) (audience cheering) (electric guitar music) (electric guitar music continues) Horny and burned out now is how it always ends for me Ayy-aah Chemicals wear me down in your summertime bacchanalian I saw you go faster than the morning comes She walks away like a lady It's always the fallen ones I think you're always going to save me I saw you go faster, ooh I want to get off one time and not apologize, ooh You gotta steal the time of a life that's passing by In bed she flexes her knees to try and abate the feeling She mouths the words "Please" to the poster on the ceiling I saw you go faster right in front of me She stares at him so madly She's got the nerve to say She wants to that boy so badly I saw you go faster, ooh I want to get off one time and not apologize, ooh You gotta steal this time from this life that's passing by Ooh, I want to get off one time and look you in the eyes Ooh, I want to get off one time, get off one time (groovy rock music) (funky electric guitar solo) (groovy rock music continues) I was hoping you would be waiting there for me lately But you're not the kind of girl who wait Not for anybody You're not the kind of girl who would be waiting For anybody I was hoping you would be waiting there for me lately But you're not the kind who would be waiting Not for anybody You're not the kind of girl who would be waiting For anybody, not even me Oooh, oooh Just one time, just one time Ooh, I could go off right now (electric - [Stephan] I'm sorry, is that our curfew?
- [Stage Manager] Yeah.

- [Kryz] Let's go over the curfew and get the lights shut off, it'll be amazing, right?
(audience cheering) - [Brad] Let's do it.
- [Stephan] Let's go.
(cheering continues) (Audience cheering builds) (cheering continues) Hey boys, let's go.
Let's go, let's go.
(rock music) (audience cheering) (energetic electric guitar riff) Doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo Doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo Doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo Doo doo doo I'm packed and I'm holding I'm smiling, she's living, she's golden She lives for me, says she lives for me Ovation, her own motivation She comes round - [Audience] and she goes down on me - [Stephan] And I make you smile, lke a drug for you Do ever what you wanna do, coming over you Keep on smiling, what we go through One stop to the rhythm that divides you And I speak to you like the chorus to the verse Chop another line like a coda with a curse Come on like a freak show takes the stage We give them the games we play, she said I want something else to get me through this (energetic rhythm guitar riff) Semi-charmed kinda life, baby, baby I want something else I'm not listening when you say goodbye Doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo Doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo Doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo Doo doo doo The sky was gold, it was rose I was taking sips of it through my nose And I wish I could get back there, some-- back there Smiling in the pictures you would take Doing crystal meth, will lift you up until you break It won't stop, I won't come down I keep stock with a tick-tock rhythm a bump for the drop And then I bumped up I took the hit that I was given Then I bumped again, then I bumped again I said, how do I get back there to the place Where I fell asleep inside you How do I get myself back to the place where you said - [Audience] I want something else to get me through this Semi-charmed kinda life, baby, baby I want-- - [Stephan] --something else I'm not listening when you say goodbye I believe in the sand beneath my toes The beach gives a feeling, an earthy feeling I believe in the faith that grows And that four right chords can make me cry When I'm with you I feel like I could die And that would be all right, all right And when the plane came in, she said she was crashing The velvet it rips in the city We tripped on the urge to feel alive Now I'm struggling to survive Those days you were wearing that velvet dress You're the priestess, I must confess Those little red panties they pass the test - [Audience] Slides up around the belly face down on the mattress - [Stephan] You hold me We are broken Still it's all that I wanna do, just a little now Feel myself, heading off the ground I'm scared, I'm not coming down (energetic electric guitar riff) No, no And I won't run for my life She's got her jaws now locked down in a smile But nothing is all right, all right - [Audience] And I want something else to get me through this life Baby, I want something else - [Stephan] Hold on a second.
We're gonna do this all together.
(audience cheering) Everybody put your arm around somebody.
Find somebody and put your arm around 'em.
Now, sing with me.
I said, I want something else To get me through this life Baby, I want something else Not listening when you say Goodbye Goodbye Goodbye Goodbye (rock music continues) Doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo Doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo Doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo (electric guitar power chords) The sky was gold, it was rose I was taking sips of it through my nose And I wish I could get back there Someplace back there, in the place we used to start (rock music continues) (energetic rock guitar riff) And I want something else (guitar riff crescendos and resolves) (audience applauding) (audience cheering) (cymbals building) (electric guitar solo) (applauding continues) (cheering continues) (applause and screaming) (applauding continues) (cheering continues) (applauding continues) (whistling) (acoustic guitar strumming) (soft rock music continues) (electric lead guitar melody) I'm only pretty sure that I can't take anymore Before you take a swing I wonder what are we fightin' for When I say out loud I want to get out of this I wonder is there anything I'm going to miss I wonder how's it gonna be When you don't know me How's it gonna be When you're sure I'm not there How's it gonna be When there's no one there to talk to Between you and me Because I don't care How's it gonna be (electric guitar melodic lead riff) How's it gonna be (electric guitar melodic lead riff) Where we used to laugh There's a shouting match - [Audience] Sharp as a thumbnail scratch - [Stephan] A silence I can't ignore Like the hammock by the doorway We spent time in swings empty Don't see lightning like last fall When it was always about to hit me, yeah And how's it gonna be When it goes down How's it gonna be When you're not around No, how's it gonna be When you found out there was nothing Between you and me Because I don't care how's it gonna be (loud rock rhythm guitar riff) How's it going to be When you don't know me anymore And how's it going to be Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah Want to get myself back in again The soft dive of oblivion I want to taste the salt of your skin The soft dive of oblivion, oblivion How's it going to be When you don't know me anymore - [Audience] How's it gonna be - [Stephan] How's it gonna be (electric guitar melodic lead riff) How's it gonna be (electric guitar melodic lead riff) I don't know (gentle rock guitar strumming) I don't know, I don't know I don't know how's it gonna be (audience applauding) (audience cheering) (electric guitar builds) (audience cheering) - [Stephan] All our friends, thank you for loving us.

(applauding continues) (cheering continues) (applauding continues) (cheering continues) (applauding continues) (cheering continues) (applauding continues) (cheering continues) (whistling and applause) (cheering continues) (indistinct talking) - [Stephan] It's never perfect.
You got your plans, you have everything that you hope for, and then there's what actually happens.
There is no moment that's absolutely perfect.
There's just the moments that we have.
And we can find perfection in them.
We can find joy in them.
You have to put yourself in the way of life.
And that lesson has become increasingly more clear to me.
(indistinct talking) (indistinct talking) (indistinct talking) Just gonna get my phone.
(Stephan singing) (Stephan singing) (Stephan singing) - What the-- ?
Oh, it's this way.
Okay.
(Stephan singing) Nobody saw that.
(Stephan humming) (Stephan humming descending scales) - [Stephan] You really want to film this?
This is going to be the most boring movie ever.
Like, concert films are boring, this one's going to be really boring.
I'm bored.
- If they keep giving these away at every gig, they'll have no red rock left.
(laughter) (explosive sweeping sound effect)
