Hello, I'm Doug La Follette, candidate for Secretary of State for Wisconsin. I'm running for the office because I know that we need to restore the important duties to this office that were stripped away by two past governors who wanted more power for themselves. We need checks and balances in government and this puts too much power in the hands of the governor. It's also made it difficult for people to obtain business-related information in Wisconsin because every other state places this information in their Secretary of State's offices. The people have spoken. They want to elect the state treasurer and Secretary of State. I plan to work with the next governor, the state treasurer and the legislature to restore the responsibilities to both offices. My opponent wants to put the responsibly of overseeing elections in the Secretary of State's office. This is a bad idea. Wisconsin has kept politics out of the voting process by having an independent Election Commission. I think we should keep it this way. There were big problems in Florida and Ohio when a partisan Secretary of State messed with the elections. I urge you to vote on November 6th and I would appreciate your vote. Thank you very much.
