I know that it might not be what many of you expected, but in the tradition of my Aunt Phryne, I wanted to bring in 1965 with all of our fabulous friends and Adventuresses.

(club applauding) You've all taught me so much, and clearly, I still have a lot to learn, but without further ado, it gives me more pleasure than I can possibly say to introduce to you, direct from "The Go!!

- I saw them kiss as I turned off the light.

- And then, he fell.

Where exactly were you standing?

(tense music) - Well, from the looks of the wound, the bullet came from that direction, where the rest of the band were standing.

- Then he's been shot at close range.

- Oh, not that close.

There'd be powder burn around the wound.

I'd say the killer was four or six feet away.

- If you'll just wait over there, miss.

- Call me Iris.

- Iris, I'll be with you shortly, okay?

(revelatory music) - It's here.

- Fingerprints.

- I'll check it over to be sure.

(tense music) - You all right?

- There's only one way out.

James, when we were standing there, I felt the door bang against my heel.

That must've been the murderer trying to escape.

- And failing.

(jazz music) (both grunting) - The windows are all locked from the inside.

(jazz music) - There's no one in here.

- That means the murderer must still be amongst us.

- Pat Ainsley was shot from the side of the stage.

That rules out the waitress.

- She and everybody else was in front of the stage on this side except for Daryl and George and Oona.

They were the only ones in the right position.

- Birdie.

- Those tears seem extreme.

- Birdie, do you think that Oona Doherty is capable of murder?

- Not with a gun.

Oona is a qualified master of ninjutsu.

It's the ancient art of knife combat as practiced by the Japanese ninjas.

- So she's a trained killer.

- Exponent of espionage and subterfuge.

It's completely different.

- Okay.

Could you keep an eye on her until we're ready to interview her somewhere away from the other guests?

- Gotcha.

- I'll need to call the station.

- I'll interview the waitress.

She must've seen something.

(tense music) - I've always been Pat's biggest fan.

So I couldn't believe it when he let me kiss him.

And then, party-poppers started going off, and I heard a loud bang that sounded like a balloon bursting, but Pat fell.

Then, the lights went out, and when they came back on again, he was dead.

- Excuse me a moment.

- So I've worked my way through the invite list.

There are no guests or staff missing.

Got some local coppers in the lecture room interviewing everyone.

- I should get them some drinks or something.

It's a party, James.

- Peregrine, are you sure that you're okay?

- Please don't be nice to me.

- Iris, prior to the murder, did you see the Irish lady behaving oddly?

- She might've been, but I was too busy watching that Daryl Daley.

- The double bass player?

- Yeah.

He was crawling around on his hands and knees near the speakers.

- That's where I found the gun.

- Are you sure that you saw him down there prior to midnight?

- Positive.

And it looked like he was trying to hide.

- Did you see anybody else acting suspiciously?

- No.

No one suspicious, just George hanging around near the curtains.

- George Starkey, the drummer?

- That's interesting.

Pat confiscated something George was writing, and he was so angry with Pat that he smashed a cymbal.

- We might need to talk to you again.

I didn't think fingerprinting required all of this- - It doesn't.

- Then why were you arguing earlier?

- Pat wanted to start the set with "My Sweet Marie", but that song always makes me think about my dead mom.

I asked him to sing something else, but he wouldn't budge.

(Peregrine sighing) - Oh, Pat.

And I was crazy for Pat, but he said a baby wouldn't fit into our lifestyle when he was a famous pop star.

So I got rid of it for him.

And then, he dumped me anyway.

- Don't pretend you understand.

- Because you wanted to win him back.

And I was in too until someone shot him.

(tense music) - She has the most compelling motive.

That makes it all kinds of my business.

- And that also makes you a suspect.

- She's asleep.

- I was with Detective Steed outside the ballroom door.

- Shame on you, Steed, letting a skirt put you off your game like that.

- Sir, Ms. Fisher is a highly skilled investigator, and it's insulting to refer to her in that way.

- Well, why don't you two stay here making lovey-dovey eyes at each other, and I'll go and solve the murder?

(tense music) (soft piano music) - Thank you for sticking up for me.

- Come on.

Let's go talk to Oona.

- It wasn't her.

It's a ninja throwing star.

Oona brought it to kill Pat but somebody else got him first.

- Unless that's an elaborate ruse to throw us off the scent.

Pat is dead.

And then, in the darkness, you came out from behind the curtain, and you shot him.

(gun firing) Nobody would notice a gunshot amongst all the noise.

It was perfect.

Until you tried to flee, and I blocked your escape.

- Time for a little payback, then.

- You were throwing yourself at my boyfriend.

- I wasn't after Pat, I promise.

- Then why did you lead him on?

Just to prove what we all know already?

That girls like you can have whoever you want?
