Balinese Hindus Hunt Demonic Spirits

Time to go spirit hunting. (drumming) Everyone makes as much noise as they can to flush them out. (drumming) (dramatic music) Now they must catch them. (dramatic music) Dewa and the team spin the Ogoh Ogoh around (fire roars) to scoop up as many spirits as they can. (Man speaks in foreign language) (fire roars) (screams) (Man speaks in foreign language) (cheering) They must cover every single street in the village. (man yelling in foreign language) (fire roaring) Balinese Hindus believe that demonic spirits cannot turn corners and tend to gather at crossroads and junctions. So Dewa and the team must pay special attention to these parts of the village. (cheering) (man speaking in foreign language) But they must be careful (man speaking in foreign language) if the Ogoh Ogoh gets broken, they believe all the demonic spirits will escape. (fire roaring) (cheering) After five hours, their traps are full. The next step is to destroy the spirits they've caught with fire. (cheering) (fire crackling) Their spiritual cleanse is almost complete but there is one final step in the battle against evil. (bugs chirping) The day of silence For the next 24 hours, Dewa and everyone on Bali from residents to tourists is required by law to hide indoors and keep quiet.
