Behind the Scenes with Ken Burns
How are you? Good. - Kevin? Yeah. - Nice to see you. I'm gonna put a microphone on ya. Okay. It's about a couple. The most improbable couple you could ever imagine. A Unitarian minister and his wife, has to go to Czechoslovakia, on the eve of World War II, and get Jews and intellectuals and other refugees, enemies of the Nazis, out. -
Male Narrator
What are we going to do? Their plight's desperate, absolutely desperate, it is too late to turn our back, on what we know is happening. It is this riveting espionage tale of escape and danger, and heart-pounding at times, suspense. -
Female Narrator
Every life we touched had its own drama. One can only manage a miracle every so often, but a series of miracles can happen when many people become concerned and are willing to act at the right time. Their role was to help these children escape the horrors of the holocaust. It's a love story, it's a story of intrigue, it's a story of fighting terrible oppression. I wanted to honor my grandparents and tell their story, but I also wanted to show that other people could do extraordinary things by their example. (light piano music)
