[ Cheers and applause ] [ Audience chanting "Otra" ] [ Cheers and applause ] [ Cheers and applause ] -I was born in Pinar del Ro, my hometown, which I love.

I came from a -- family.

When I was a kid, normally, my grandma was always this kind of woman that say like, "Everybody in the family gonna go to college.

Everybody gonna study."

So I begin to study medicine.

And in the second year of the career, I travel to Havana, to the capital, for first time.

And once I get there, I see a show of a Cuban artist.

He made, like, Cuban music mixed with -- He had a little bit of funk, but also with polka, some crazy stuff.

And once I saw that, I was -- Once I see that, I was like, "Yeah, I want to do this for -- I want to do this.

I just want to be in that.

I want to feel that sensation with the crowd.

I want to be that guy.

And I returned to my hometown and I say to my family, "Yo, I'm not good in medicine no more," because my mind was in another place.

So everybody said like, "Okay, if you're not good, just do the other thing."

And everybody support me, because they have this kind of flow of, "You've got to be good on what you do."

And, yeah, I just finished the career and I moved to the capital.

And I moved to find a guy from Pinar del Ro who was famous.

Once I know of this guy and I showed him the music, he said like, "Yo, you seem good.

You want to make chorus in my band?"

I said, "Yes."

He told me like, "I have a show now that is gonna be live television, like, a big, big show in the main theater in Havana.

You want to be the chorus guy?"

I say, "Yes."

After that, everything opened.

All the doors start to open.

I was dressing super-crazy in the show so everybody saw me.

And it was like, "Yo, you are the chorus of Raul Paz.

You're the chorus of this guy."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah.

I make chorus with him."

That was just one time, but I keep that -- Like, "Yeah, I'm the actual chorus."

So, after that, I keep doing music and I start to create my own sounds.

And I was lucky enough for traveling a cruise ship for eight months.

That was the point when I get to be able to buy my first computer and buy the sound interface and the microphone.

Once I did that, I just made my first album, "Therapy."

And that's all.

After that, everything start to work as Cimafunk.

The people always compare me with James Brown.

You know, it's James.

He's the godfather of the groove, as George Clinton is the godfather of funk.

These guys made the stuff, you know?

It's -- Like, I feel really fine with that, but, also, James is my inspiration.

I really love his work, and he was a master.
