Appraisal: Zao Wou-Ki Lithograph, ca. 1960
GUEST: Well, I grew up in south Florida, but I moved to Alaska.
So I was home visiting family and I went to a thrift store.
And so my husband went to get a cup of coffee.
I come out with a gorgeous oak hall tree and this painting, and he said, "Honey, we are flying in two days."
And I said, "I know, but-but I love this."
Paid $25 for it.
Found out it was Zao Wou-Ki.
Is that the correct pronunciation?
APPRAISER: Yes.
GUEST: I thought that it was a watercolor and found out it was a stone lithograph.
APPRAISER: Well, this is typical late 1950s, early '60s.
He died in 2013.
He was Chinese.
And these lithographs are really quite popular.
What do you think it's worth?
GUEST: $4,000?
APPRAISER: Ah... well, you've done your homework, but I would say about that.
$4,000 to $6,000 at auction.
GUEST: Thank you.
