Appraisal: Tiffany Diamond Pendant Watch, ca. 1920
GUEST
I inherited this piece from my great-great-aunt Sue, who was Lady Suzanna Tweed, who was married to Carlton Tweed, who invented the valve on the tires on your car.
APPRAISER
No kidding.
GUEST
Yeah, my uncle invented many things. He was deaf, and he was an incredible man.
APPRAISER
Well, it was a beautiful piece of jewelry that he bought for your aunt. Now, this is a diamond pendant on the face. But if we turn it around, we see that it's also a watch. Now, the watch has a movement made by C.H. Meylan. However, it was retailed by Tiffany and Company. It's all single-cut diamonds around the outside border. And then the two largest stones, the one in the center and the one on top of the bale, are marquis-cut diamonds. In total weight, you have around two carats.
GUEST
Oh, wow.
APPRAISER
And if you look on the end, you'll see there's rose-cut diamonds in the crown. It's all beautifully executed, nice mill graining along the edge of the diamonds, and it just all comes together. It's a very sweet piece. In the current auction market, I would say this may fetch $3,000 to $4,000.
GUEST
Wow, great. Fantastic.
APPRAISER
Have you worn it?
GUEST
Yes, I have.
APPRAISER
Oh, you have?
GUEST
Yes.
APPRAISER
So you've been enjoying it?
GUEST
Oh, yes.
APPRAISER
Well, that's great.
GUEST
It's an attention-getter.
APPRAISER
Oh, yeah, I'm sure. It's fabulous-looking, come on.
