This painting's been in the family ever since my grandfather got it from Wisconsin artist Paul Seifert.

Paul Seifert is a German-born man who emigrated to America and is known for painting pictures, particularly of farms, in Wisconsin. I think he was born in 1846, died 1923. And he apparently would travel and go from farm to farm and ask them if they would like him to paint a portrait of the farm. The picture is rendered in watercolor on paper. But I think the attention to detail, the accuracy, the color used, I think it all adds up to a terrific work of folk art, and beautiful at the same time. In this present market, I would suggest insuring it at the $5,000 level.
