World War II German POW Ship in a Bottle made in Canada
GUEST
My father picked this up during the Second World War at a prisoner-of-war camp in Ontario.
APPRAISER
It's a German POW camp that was located here in Canada. They made these to make themselves money to buy themselves small amenities. As opposed to a typical ship in a bottle, what you see is in the background, a train going across a trestle bridge, and the train says "P.O.W." on it. There's also a village scene. It's got a little church, little street, small buildings down on the edge of the river. You've got a nice schooner going up the river. I haven't been able to find anything out on the Varga. It's a type of ship-in-a-bottle that I have not seen in the past. It's my belief that this bottle very well could bring somewhere between $300 and $500.

Excellent, excellent. I'm quite happy with that.
