Bonus Video: Hear the Folk Art Banjo!
APPRAISER
We were talking earlier about how there's so few things like this that have survived in the condition this has survived in. I mean, it's pretty much untouched. It still has the old varnish on it, and think about this, it kind of gives me the cold chills on my arm to think that your great great uncle made this and gave it to your grandfather in 1920. And I would give anything to be in the room to hear him playing with other guys, you know.
GUEST
Oh yeah. They did great.
APPRAISER
An old timey tune. Well.
GUEST
Yeah, they did great.
APPRAISER
It still has some strings left on it. And I didn't dare tune them up any higher than I already did.
GUEST
Yeah.
APPRAISER
But this is called a fretless banjo. You know, there's all these notes in the between where your finger are supposed to be that are called bad notes, but the thing that made the fretless unique was the fact that they would slide on it.
GUEST
Mhmm.
APPRAISER
Pretty Polly. With a tone deaf banjo player.
GUEST
Well, I still think my grandpa would like to play with you anyway.
APPRAISER
Well, I would have loved to if I had my guitar we would just go right to it.
