Appraisal: Shirley Temple Doll, ca. 1934
GUEST
I inherited her from my mother. She acquired the doll as a Christmas present in 1934. And she valued the doll so much, she never played with it. And when I was growing up, I wanted to play with it, and she said, "Absolutely not." She would let me look at it about, oh, maybe once or twice a year.
APPRAISER
Lucky for you that it wasn't played with, because your doll is what we call "mint in box." The curls are still in place, original pin is still on the doll, silk label that tells us that she is indeed Shirley Temple. When you want a Shirley Temple doll, it has to be made by Ideal. There were other dolls that looked like Shirley Temple, but they couldn't be advertised as Shirley Temple. The end of the original box has the price of $4.79. On today's market, your doll would sell between $500 and $650.
