Appraisal: Ding Dong Bell Toy, ca. 1900

My aunt and my mother started collecting antiques probably in the '40s and this is just one of the toys that was handed down to me.

What you have here is a toy made by Gong Bell Manufacturing Company out of Easthampton, Connecticut. It's a nursery-rhyme toy and the reason it's called "bell toy" is because it had a bell action. As you moved it, the bell rings. This one is called "Ding-Dong Bell..." "Pussy's Not in the Well," off the nursery rhyme which is written right in here. Very good condition, original polychrome paint, all cast iron. This toy today on the open market is worth $3,500 to $4,500.
