Appraisal: 1938 Gibson A-Style Guitar
GUEST
My great-uncle Hugh came from Seattle in the summer to visit, brought his guitar, we'd sit on the porch and sing. And we just formed a real special bond, and then he sent me this guitar when I was in college. These are his initials. He played on KJR in Seattle.

And when was that?
GUEST
I'd say in the early '30s.

It's the Gibson Nick Lucas Special. Nick Lucas was a popular singer, guitarist back in the '30s, and Gibson got his endorsement. This guitar was made in 1938. The body style of this guitar is a little bit different. It has this rounded bottom of it, and then extra deep sides. It gave it a bigger sound. Unfortunately, the neck has been broken and repaired. Like this today, we would put a retail value of around $5,000 to $6,000.

Oh, that's great.
