From the Holiday Music Motel Sessions, recorded Feb. 2, 2013 in Sturgeon Bay. Milwaukee-based, world touring musician Paul Cebar is among the greatest musicians Wisconsin has produced. He's devoted to African, Latin, and Caribbean music as well as American R&B and jump blues. Though he's fronted some of the hardest touring bands, it’ll be a special treat to hear Cebar in a rare solo show.

>> All right! Good evening. He drinks hot water 'Cause he loves the Duke If his friends'd fly He'd up and fly, too Can't blame a disciple For acting like you You can't blame a lover For loving Some say Others have it in for them Others say It's something or other Can't blame another For walking away You can't blame a lover For loving A lover will love The daylights out of The dimmest prospect going And a lover will lay Their heart out on the line A lover will leave a love That simply won't come loose But a lover will always stop And think about it And think about it Yeah, that lover will love The daylights out of The dimmest prospect going And a lover will lay Their heart out on the line A lover will leave a love That simply won't come loose But a lover will always stop And think about it And think about it You said I thought you were fooling I said I was, but no more Can't blame the story For rolling along You can't blame a lover For loving Can't blame a lover For loving to love You can't blame a lover For loving

All right. Thank you very much. I know there's a lot of blamers out there. So, you can't blame a lover. All right, here's a little one called "Lovely As The Day Is Long." Lovely as the day Is long And you say Let's get Real gone We'll find an oasis To rally upon Lovely as the day is long Lovely is as lovely does And I guess it's just Because Someone like you Has sure happened along And you're lovely as The day is long And in the dead Of the winter Your liveliness as stark As the night It o'er leaps the sights And by my meager lights Is sublime So right on time Lovely can't begin to say But it's singing anyway Oh, what a shiver In this trembling dawn Lovely as the day is long In the deep, dead dark Of the winter Your liveliness as stark As the night It o'er leaps the sights And by my meager lights It is sublime So right on time Well, now Lovely can't begin To say But it's singing anyway Oh, what a shiver In this trembling dawn Lovely as the day is long We'll find an oasis To rally upon Lovely as the day is long Lovely as the day is long

Thank you. Thank you very much. What's keeping Erica Aloft and enlivening our Little lives? What's keeping Erica Far from the fray And the row? Here in this Cold shoulder town We're all down And tense in the teeth Of the storm Tell me What's keeping Erica? What's keeping Erica warm? What's keeping Erica serene As a ship in the harbor? What's keeping Erica Far from the to and the fro? When even the rivers Are riled up And tough guys'll quail Like a poor orphaned waif Tell me What's keeping Erica? What's keeping Erica safe? That's why I stand Close as I can With my hands out Oh, maybe by seeing How she's being I'll find out What's keeping Erica out of The raging flood waters? What's keeping Erica above All the guttersnipe swill? While opprobrium sinks One and all To a roil Jackals Left minding the store What's keeping Erica? It boggles the mind All the more What's keeping Erica? They just brought My fourth cup of coffee Oh, what's keeping Erica? Nerves can get jangled 'Round here I count packets of sugar Rain rattles the windows And in here I'm starting to see Oh, what's keeping Erica Keeping a fellow like me?

All right, thank you. Thank you. Listen to the leaves And the tale they tell Winds that sail out Beyond the pale Moon on the wane Slides away Whisper your name Listen to the rain On the roof Listen to my hoot owl Calling you All the corn a rustle Silky with dew And, mm-mm-mm-hmm I know A place to go Where the weather vane Is moving mighty slow And I don't really care I'm cooing away Listen to the breath Blow through this house Tick tock ticking As it turns the time Listen to my heart How loud it pounds It's pounding away It don't really matter Day or night Why you wanna worry About wrong or right It's twine time In the quarter moon light It don't really matter Day or night Why you wanna worry About wrong or right, girl It's twine time In the quarter moon light Listen to the rain On the roof Listen to my hoot owl Calling you All the corn a rustle Silky with dew And, mm-mm-mm-hmm You know that I know a place to go Where the weather vane Is moving mighty slow And I don't really care I'm cooing away Oh, listen to the breath Blow through this house Tick tock ticking As it turns the time Listen to your heart How loud it pounds It's pounding away, now Listen to the leaves And the tale they tell Wind that sails out Beyond the pale Moon on the wane Slides away And whisper your name

All right. That's called "Hoot Owl." This is about this poor little guy that's in trouble. He's loving living, but he's living love. This is called "The Brink of Things." When every single record Seems to Speak your mind You'd like to leave Even your favorites Far behind In the interest Of the future You call for songs About socks Simmering spices And bonds and stocks But the hoop won't have it The limp Won't green up again You'll be singing All over again You're loving living But living love Takes you To the brink of things You ain't never Thought quite of Like looking for water In the pouring rain You're just loving living But living love When the horrible Wheels of history Seem to grind Through your front door And entropy calls out Loud and clear to you Once more And every dire paradigm Holds a little whit of truth Every smiling passerby Flashes an extra tooth Well, it's small potatoes It's remember when Then you're singing All over again You're loving living Yeah, but living love Take you down a notch or two From soaring up above Like crying for quiet When your heart's The only sound You're just loving living But living love You keep on loving living But living love If there ever was a way To feel this more obliquely I'm sure that way Is well barred to me If there ever was a time To laugh and roll it over It's half past heartaches And a quarter to three When the world is calling She can hear it, too It has every reason to She can't seem To hear from you So, you start To loving louder You paint With broader strokes You heap on the high praises Won't let up On all the jokes She'll only hear your song From someone else again And you'll be singing To spite every one of them You're loving living Yeah, but living love Takes you To the brink of things You ain't never Thought quite of Like looking for water In the pouring rain You're just loving living But living love You keep on loving living But living love You're just loving living But living love Keep on loving living But living love

Thank you. I think I have time for two more. At one point, there was a guy that was our biggest booster in Minneapolis, St. Paul. He couldn't understand why I never had a drinking song, or a smoking song. So this is as close as I get. This is a song called "Grenadine." I was bitter Down in defeat You saw me bobbing And wooed me Overripe, I'd soured But you pulled me back Thought I heard "Stay sweet" I tried grit and glass I tipped down in class You laid on the gabardine My quinine heart Come up grenadine Swore I heard "Stay sweet" Sweeter than your berries On your bushes in the fall Sweeter Than I'd ever hoped to be Sweeter Than the doggone Day is long Sweeter And just strong enough To see What you mean to me Sweeter than the berries On your bushes in the fall Sweeter Than I'd ever hoped to be Sweeter Than the doggone Day is long Sweeter And just strong enough To see What you mean to me I had washed up Out in the street You brought My bags up for me Unpack them, I must The bile, the rust Was it you who said "Stay sweet" Swore I heard "Stay sweet"

Thank you. Thank you very much. I'm tired But I'm not weary I'm weak But I'll be strong And I hope To know much better Somewhere further along I've been down And around the bend some Been right And I've sure been wrong But I hope To do you better Somewhere further along Somewhere we both belong Been fishing In a shallow stream Not exactly Making anglers green If you feel You're drifting out to sea Don't give a thought to me You're tired, girl But hardly weary I'm weak But we'll be strong If and when We find our stride, dear Somewhere further along Somewhere we both belong There's still no check Upon the wicked How I cringe To hear the siren's song Now, who has hope For real horizons Somewhere further along Ooh, but there's Men and women movers With their sweet Disembodied song Well, there's mixed blooded Fervor waiting Somewhere further along Now, now Somewhere we both belong Been toiling In a fallow field With more rancor Than we truly feel Slights come to blows In every corner Here they come for me now There's still no rest For the weary now There's no room For the swaying song But I bet We get to swing it slyly Somewhere further along now Somewhere we both belong But I bet we get to Swing it slyly Somewhere further along Somewhere we both belong Thank you all very much.
