Hailing from the river town of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, HHG plays something like progressive high-energy Old-Time folk music. With strong roots in old-time and bluegrass, the band has formed its own unique style born from the diverse musical backgrounds and interests of the five friends who make up the band.

Horseshoes & Hand Grenades
(harmonica music) It's the 30-Minute Music Hour. I'm Andy Moore. From Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades! (cheers and applause) (performing "Gator Tracks") (spirited harmonica and fiddle) Buy me a barrel of whiskey Make it sweet as honey My old darling loves me coming down the line Let down your hair now honey You don't need no money Don your dancing shoes and tear it up tonight (cheers and applause) Oh, man! What a pleasure being on the 30-Minute Music Hour here! (audience cheering) We've all been watching this since we were little tykes, so it's quite the honor, for sure! (twanging string) We should perform "For a River." - Yeah. This tune goes out to all those folks getting out to enjoy the fall colors out there on the river. This tune's called, "For A River." (plucking) (fiddling) Now she comes on like a wisp of smoke Gentle pushing on a summer's eve I'll never know all of her For she's ever changing as the moments pass And her kiss is worth a thousand fiddle tunes May she roll strong 'Til the end of days (harmonica) Now the twists and bends of the way she moves Fall soft against my open palms What I love most is the touch of her Washing or' my body on a restless day And her kiss is worth a thousand fiddle tunes May she roll strong 'til the end of days (energetic harmonica) And her eyes reflect the color of the skies As her hips silhouetting in the dying sun Just water and man when the morning come I can hear her voice rushing by my side And her kiss is worth a thousand fiddle tunes May she roll strong 'Til the end of days The old gui-tar... Whoo! (plucking melody on banjo) Whoo! Now I'll stay by her 'til I take no more Of her ever running down that muddy road And she does smile back at me For she knows I'll never stay away And her kiss is worth a thousand fiddle tunes May she roll strong 'Til the end of days And the hard times may come As the high waters roll And our love travels on As we dance this lovely two step On down (playing harmonica plaintively) The state boarder line And her kiss is worth a thousand fiddle tunes May she roll strong 'Til the end of days And her kiss is worth a thousand fiddle tunes May she roll strong 'Til the end of days (vocalizing) (cheers and applause) I mentioned earlier that we all grew up getting to catch the 30-Minute Music Hour. And it's 'cuz we're all born and raised here in Sconnie. Yeah! (audience cheering "Whoo!) Russell comes from up on the St. Croix. In fact, he was just chasing muskies for the past-- That I was, there. For the past week on the 'ol fly rod. He landed himself one, didn't 'ya? Thirdy nine. Ya, thirdy nine-incher. (laughing) And Sammy and Dave here, they come from the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. I come from right there in Central Wisconsin, on the 'Sconnie River. And Mr. Collin Mettelka back here on the fiddle, he comes from the Motherland, folks. He comes from Packerville. Color and all. - Donnin' the colors here... (applause)...with great pride this year! (laughing) Ah, yeah, Colin comes from Green Bay, everybody. He's going to sing you a song right now called "Old Man." It's a tune he wrote. (performing "Old Man & Me") If this life were just a memory Of the old man that one day I'll be Could I improvise his symphony Add a few more crescendos Tangle your fingers in mine Hot sex and ice cold brandywine This night could transcend space and time And time again Take off your karma at the door Strip down 'til there's you and nothing more Scream out cause we're young and dumb And poor...pour another drink (harmonica playing) If this life were just a minstrel show For the old man right before he goes To be beneath his last laurel My epitaph would read Consider friend as you walk by As you are now, so once was I As I am now, you too shall be Grateful for today Work hard and play 'til you can't breath You're love is all that you can leave Time lost is something you should grieve But not for me (harmonica playing) If this life were just a dying dream Or a stroke of serendipity Would it really bother you, not me 'Cause it plays out all the same Cast away from this foreign land And hold your sister by the hand Blood and bones these we understand Above it all So when my time is running thin Who knows what kind of shape I'm in I hope I have the strength to grin As I see you Tangle your fingers in mine Hot sex and ice cold brandywine This night could transcend space and time And time again (cheers and applause) Man, it feels really nice playing music in this room. Yip! How 'bout some accordion?
Audience
Yeah! We been traveling a little bit outside of Wisconsin. And it's always fun busting out the accordion, out and about, across the country, and giving them a little bit of the polka history-- you grew up in these parts. We're going to give you guys a song that Dave wrote, a tune called "Hoot 'N Howl," I do believe. Straight out of Milwaukee. (performing "Hoot 'N Howl") (accordion instrumental) (Cajun Bluegrass music) It's hooting power! (cheers and applause) (laughing) Last one. Is it possible to have too much fun? -
