Your Pets’ Secret Lives

I share my apartment with two pets: a longhaired gray tabby named Donna and a shorthaired orange tabby named Harvey. They’re full of personality, fond of food and usually tolerant of my presence. Donna likes to curl up on my lap when she feels like it, and on the rare occasion that Harvey’s not sleeping, he loves to play with his catnip mouse.
Sometimes, when I observe them, I can’t help but see them as miniature lions, snoozing and frolicking in their miniature savannah, sheltered from the wild world but still full of wild instincts. As much as we try to tame them, our pets will always be a little wild at heart.
Beginning 7 p.m. tonight, Nature looks into the mysterious minds of our beloved pets in a two-part series: Pets: Wild at Heart.
The series illuminates our pets’ secret world of wild behavior and natural abilities, many of which we hardly notice. Armed with HD spy cameras, night vision cameras, drones, miniature onboard cameras and digital high-speed cameras, Nature’s uncovered even the most secretive of behaviors.
Watch part one 7 p.m. tonight, and catch part two 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28.
