Monday, April 30, WPT kicks off an important initiative to help Wisconsin’s military families. Wisconsin Public Television Supports Military Kids provides activities and resources to help mitigate the stresses of deployment on the nearly 14,500 Wisconsin kids in military families.
Join us 10 a.m. Monday, April 30 at the Verona Public Library for an open house featuring PBS Kids’ Clifford the Big Red Dog, fun activities and resources for military parents and child care providers. All resources will be available in select libraries throughout Wisconsin beginning in May. Just look for the poster featuring Elmo and his dad, Louie.
Wisconsin Public Television Supports Military Kids focuses on the youngest members of a family, 2 to 5-year-olds who do not benefit from existing programs that are mainly directed toward school-age children, and includes the following resources:
- Talk, Listen, Connect – A bilingual multimedia project from Sesame Workshop to help military families cope from pre-deployment to homecoming and through the physical or emotional injuries that can change a family post-deployment.
- FamiliesNearAndFar.org – A free bilingual social networking website designed to help bring military families closer together.
- Military family aid and support materials, including financial assistance for child care.
- Books for children, including “H is for Honor,” “The Feelings Book,” “I Miss You Every Day.”
Wisconsin Public Television Supports Military Kids is a partnership of WPT, Wisconsin Operation Military Kids (4-H), UW-Extension Family Living Programs, and Wisconsin Library Association.
