Sewing Tips A-Z

Watch Sewing with Nancy: Sewing A-Z at 9 a.m. Saturday, August 6 on Wisconsin Public Television.
Takes me back to those days long ago when we still had home-ec classes and were expected to spend the school year actually learning new skills that we would need later in life. To this day I still remember intensely measuring ingredients for cookies to turn out just right and carefully trying to thread a needle to sew a button back on.
I managed to hold onto most of my cooking, laundry and cleaning skills over the years – priceless lessons for living on your own. On the other hand, I have never really enhanced my sewing in any way, shape or form. Sure I can still find a needle and some thread and reattach a button or fix a small tear in a seam, but nothing fancy.
Functionally was always my key focus – use thread that matches and stitch over the area again and again until it seems like it will hold for the long term. Needless to say, most of my “projects” are not the most attractive things you’ve ever seen.
