Discover Polka! in Wisconsin
February 28, 2017 Leave a Comment
Did you know that polka is the official state dance of Wisconsin? (It’s the law – since 1993!)
In Wisconsin Public Television’s new hour-long documentary airing 7 p.m. on Monday, March 6, musician and host Mollie Busta – better known as Mollie B. – explores how European immigrants brought polka music and dance to the hills and shores of Wisconsin in the 19th century – and how the folk tradition is being kept alive in communities across the state.
Watch the film preview below and read our interview with Mollie B.
Polka is music made for getting together, being happy, and dancing! It’s time to get up, get out, and enjoy polka at venues and festivals across Wisconsin. Find a location near you and join in the fun all year long!
And if you live near Monroe, please join WPT and Mollie B. on Thursday, March 2 for a Polka! advance screening.
We are still adding events and locations to the map, so check back soon! Know of another place or event where people enjoy polka concerts and dancing not shown here? Let us know! Leave a comment or email [email protected] – and we’ll add it to the map.
Funding for Polka! is provided in part by the Stanley J. Cottrill Fund, International Polka Association, Wisconsin Dells Polka Fest, and Friends of Wisconsin Public Television.

Hello,
I was doing a search for Polka dances in WI and came across this blog from last year. I’m wondering if someone could share a similar map of locations of Polka dances coming up 2018-19 ? Thank you in advance!

we met some polish american polka lovers in the hide out or hideway in downtown ft myers fl. the men were members of a polka band. they invited us to come to their very small wisconsin town for an annual celebration in july. left their card in fl and cant remember the name of the town or the bar they are associated with they told us there was only one small hotel close and that we should make our reservation quickly [probably too late] but we would like to go anyway. with this sketchy info do you have a clue?

Its’ GREAT to see POLKA MUSIC get some recognition !
Keep it up with more coverage ! Here are a couple of spots
for your map. First, the Stetsonville WI. Centennial Hall, great place,
danced to the MUSIC CONNECTION band from Wausau on 3/19/2017, great Slovenian style music. There is usually one or two dances a month there….. MUSIC CONNECTION plays quite often at the Lake of the Torches Casino in Lac Du Flambeau., WI.
Thanks for great programming.
