Watch Hetty Wainthropp Investigates at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18 on Wisconsin Public Television.
Time for some throwback mysteries! Sure the show may not have a set of fancy initials in the title or have a spin off based in every major city, but they are crime mysteries nevertheless. In fact, I think each episode will be a refreshing change from what is commonly seen today.
Without all the high-tech toys and futuristic forensics applications, Hetty Wainthropp will surely have to rely more on wit and intuition to get the job done. Also, new solutions almost certainly means new problems – which means looking at a mystery from a completely different angle than we normally see… what a relief.
I’m not sure if I’m the only one, but usually less than ten minutes in, the so-called mystery isn’t much of a mystery. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of shows and movies that are still fun to watch even after you’ve figured out what’s going on. I would just prefer if I couldn’t accurately predict the big climactic ending to a “mystery” before it’s even half over.

Lynda Butek says:
While I like Patricia Routledge and your other mysteries, the Hetty Wainthropp series is very juvenile. The acting is okay, it’s the plots. They would even make Nancy Drew yawn. Certainly not worthy of your schedule.
