Great Lakes, Diminishing Forests
February 18, 2014 Leave a Comment
Join us Tuesday for a look at the impacts of deforestation in Wisconsin, Michigan and the entire Great Lakes area. Watch live online as Detroit Public Television and The Nature Conservancy hold a panel discussion on the health of northern forests – part of Great Lakes Now, an initiative to examine the status and future of the Great Lakes.
The Great Lakes contain one of the largest remaining swaths of unbroken hardwood forest in the United States, but as a result of historical and modern large-scale timbering, the once-massive forests have been reduced to a small fraction of their original abundance. Explore the challenges facing this precious resource and what can be done to keep our forests growing into the 21st century and beyond.
Watch live on the web: Noon, Tuesday, Feb. 18. Visit greatlakesnow.org for information on the panelists and to explore other environmental risks to the health of the Great Lakes region.
Great Lakes Now sponsors include the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, and is brought to you by Detroit Public Television and Milwaukee Public Television.
