Bucky!

Watch Being Bucky at 11 p.m. Friday, August 26 on Wisconsin Public Television.
What could be a greater honor than being the beloved Bucky Badger? Sure the suit smells and you can’t stop the sweating, but everyone loves you for it.
Stepping into the mascot position is essentially a free pass to goof around and just have fun. No worrying about talking to anyone, just play with the band and run around with the cheerleaders until it’s time for your next set of pushups.
Many years ago I had the “pleasure” of stepping into such a suit and spend a few hours as Grimace. For those of you who don’t know, Grimace is the big purple blob of a monster that palled around with Ronald McDonald and the Hamburglar in the old McDonalds commercials.
You know you’ve made a mistake when you put the head on for the first time and realize that the ring of plastic around the neck is there solely to catch sweat as it drips from your face. Then it’s time to move on to the joys of never knowing if each child you approach will smile and run over to hug you… or burst into tears and hide behind their grandmother who now has a rather irritated look about her.
